  • The Stingray Point Regatta will be conducted on September 2-3 near the mouth of the Piankatank River.  A Skippers' Meeting will be held under the tent at 18:00 pm Friday, September 1.  The number of daily races will be determined by the Race Committee based on the weather conditions on each day of racing. The warning signal for the first start each day will be at 11:00.
  • Cruising class will race one government mark distance race each day. Warning for Cruising class on Saturday and Sunday will be 11:00.

Everyone is invited to the Friday night Shrimp Boil with live music Friday night, September 1st!  Only $10 a person, this is a great way to end the summer!

Saturday night there is a "little shindig" with a great band and catered dinner!  We hope you will join us and bring your friends, whether you are racing or not!

 

PROGRAM Organizing Authority of the Stingray Point Regatta is Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Event & Race management will be conducted by the FBYC Special Events Committee. Racing will be held near the mouth of the Piankatank River.

RULES - The regatta shall be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) except as modified by the Sailing Instructions.

ELIGIBILITY The 2017 Stingray Point Regatta is open to monohull boats racing under PHRF or One-Design. All PHRF boats must possess a valid PHRF Chesapeake rating certificate. One-Design competitors must be members of their respective class associations. Cruising class boats without a PHRF certificate will be assigned a rating by the race organizers.

CLASSES The regatta is open to boats in the following handicap divisions or classes: PHRF classes: A, B, C, NS, Cruising, and J/70. Other handicap divisions or classes may be added at the discretion of the organizing authority if five or more boats register for that division or class. Contact the Race Chairman at (804) 334-1181 or julieann.wash@webnext.net.  Event headquarters will be the main clubhouse building at Fishing Bay Yacht Club. All skippers must check in during registration to receive their Skipper's package and Sailing Instructions.

RACING AND COURSES  The regatta is comprised of (i) the Stingray Light long-distance race; and (ii) the Stingray Point Regatta.

  • The Stingray Light long-distance race will be held on Friday September 1, and will be scored separately from the Stingray Point Regatta. The course will be set around government marks and may vary in length based on the weather conditions on the day of the race. A skipper's meeting will be held in the vicinity of the flagpole located closest to the Jackson Creek docks at 11:00.  A warning signal will be given at 13:00.
  • The Stingray Point Regatta will be conducted on September 2-3 near the mouth of the Piankatank River.  A Skippers' Meeting will be held under the tent at 18:00 pm Friday, September 1.  The number of daily races will be determined by the Race Committee based on the weather conditions on each day of racing. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS  The Preliminary Sailing Instructions will be available on or about August 15, 2017, on the FBYC web site (www.fbyc.net). The Official printed hard copy will be given out at registration.

Friday, September 1, 2017
1030 – Check in for Stingray Light Race
1100 – Skippers' Meeting for Stingray Light Race adjacent to Official Notice Board
1300 – First warning for Stingray Light Race
1600 – 1745 registration and check-in for Saturday and Sunday racing
1800 – Skippers' Meeting for the Stingray Point Regatta (Saturday and Sunday series) adjacent to the Official Notice Board
1830 – Welcome – Distance race awards, followed by food, drink, music, and fun.

Saturday, September 2, 2017
0800 – 0900 continental breakfast
1100 – First warning for race one
1700 – 1830 Cocktails at Ric's Place. Cash bar. 
1830 – 2230 Dinner and awards. Live entertainment provided.

Sunday, September 3, 2017
0800 – 0900 continental breakfast 
1100– First warning for race one
1500 or ASAP - Casual reception followed by awards - Includes light snacks, complimentary bar while supplies last. No cost.
Sunday evening - For boats and crews wishing to continue enjoying FBYC's fantastic facility through the weekend, there will be a BYO, DIY, barbecue at the main clubhouse. Eat food, drink drinks and tell stories with all the best people.

SCORING

  • Time-on-time scoring will be used for PHRF classes.
  • The Low point scoring system of Appendix A of the Racing Rules of Sailing will apply, as modified. Each boat's total score will be the sum of her scores for all races. There shall be no throw outs. One race constitutes a series. Boats still racing that do not finish within 45 minutes of the first boat finishing in her class will be scored the number of competitors plus one.
  • The Friday Distance race will be scored separately from the races held Saturday and Sunday and will not be counted towards the Brent Halsey, Jr. Memorial Trophy.

AWARDS Class awards for first, second, and third place will be presented daily. For multiple race days, class awards will be presented on combined scores for the day. Overall class series as well as Brent Halsey, Jr. Memorial Trophy awards will be presented on the last day of the regatta.
