Basic Keelboat Certification Course
Learn to sail with FBYC
WHAT ARE THE SPECIFICS
The weekend Learn to Sail Course consists of the sequence of two weekend workshops, sailed on 24' long sailboats. We begin with a weekend of Sailing Fundamentals, and then follow up with a weekend of Intermediate Sailing and Seamanship. There will be two sessions of two weekends each.
[At this time, there are no scheduled sessions.]
In conjunction with Premier Sailing School and Fishing Bay Yacht Club, the course is taught by US Sailing-certified instructors. They provide a professional environment dedicated to your safety and learning. The course is comprehensive and hands-on with a low teacher-to-student ratio of 4:1 (max). We hope to have you zipping across the Bay in no time!
WHY NOW
FISHING BAY YACHT CLUB is offering this course at a one-time discounted rate this spring in celebration of our Yacht Club's 75th Anniversary. Don't miss out. The typical price for this same course at other sailing schools is at a rate 30% higher.
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates will have demonstrated the ability to responsibly skipper and crew a simple daysailing keelboat in familiar waters in light-to-moderate wind and sea conditions. This course covers the skills necessary to build your confidence and sailing ability.
You will become a certified Keelboat Sailor by completing the requirements in the US Sailing Keel Boat Sailor Certification Record Book, supplied and validated by your US Sailing instructor. Instructional materials are provided.
** Basic keelboat certification is required for more advanced certification classes, such as US Sailing's Basic Cruising course and Bareboot Cruising course.
PREREQUISITE
There is no prerequisite for Basic Keelboat Certification. No previous sailing experience necessary! This course is also appropriate for those who have some experience, but are not yet comfortable sailing on their own.
HOW MUCH
The US Sailing certification can be competed in four full days done over two weekends. It is envisioned to have a start time of 9:30 and to finish at 4:00, with a lunch offered at anchor. We will provide a highly structured course that is practical and is aimed at getting participants out on the water and ready to sail independently as quickly as possible.
Group sizes will never exceed 4 students per boat, which ensures that students get plenty of personal attention with a focus on hands on sailing culminating in each student receiving a US Sailing KeelBoat Certification. Discounted FBYC 2014 price - only $500 - for Basic Keelboat Certification course (4 days of sailing and instruction)
