UPDATE:4/8/2016 14:45 Al sessions for this day have been canceled. Classroom and on the water.
UPDATE: 4/7 1328: the J/70 Speed clinic has been cancelled.
Start the season with a fun-filled day of on and off the water training. We will have two outstanding "Speed Clinics" to get you and your crew ready for the 2016 season.
Jerry Latell wil be presenting a morning classroom-style Speed Clinic for the "big" boats beginning at 9:00 in the main clubhouse upstairs.
Alan Terhune will be conducting a Speed Clinic specifically for the J/70 fleet beginning at 10:00.
All boats and teams (not just those attending the Speed Clinic sessions) are invited to head out to the Bay around midday. We'll make use of marks set up by our RC trainees, and put our crews through their paces. Start sequences will be rolling as needed so we can find the perfect timing we had last fall. Pick a tuning partner and work on boat speed. Try roll tacking. Do multiple spinnaker gybes without using the pole. Try sailing wing-on-wing with your assymetrical. Let the new sailor you recruited try doing the foredeck. Do a man overboard drill. The list is endless, as we all have something that we could do better. And if you don't have anything to learn? Be there so others can learn from your expertise.
Radio use is allowed and encouraged. Talk to other boats. Give pointers. Arrange mock situations. RC will use channel 72 for practice starts. All others are to use channel 71. Keep it fun. Keep it constructive.
A "bring your own" BBQ is planned after sailing at the main clubhouse. Bring your leftover drinks and snacks, something to slap on the grill, and we'll plunder the kitchen for anything left from the Opening Day party. Tell stories. Brag about your crew. Ask questions. Talk about what worked well and ask others why something didn't.
