OCEAN CRUISING CLUB RENDEZVOUS AND SOUTHERN BAY CRUISE
Sunday, June 4 - Thursday, June 8, 2017 

As with cruises that we have led in recent years, we will be joining with Ocean Cruising Club members for this cruise. These are sailors who have completed a 1,000nm non-stop passage on a yacht no longer than 70 feet. (Could this apply to you? If not yet, Associate membership is open to those who dream of qualifying in a few years.) We are working hard to drum up interest among boats in the islands this winter who will be coming north in the spring. George and Frances Sadler and our OCC friend Bill Balme on Toodle-oo are spreading the word. Hopefully we will attract a fun and interesting group.

Planned itinerary is:

Sunday, June 4 - Corrotoman River

We will kick off the cruise with a cookout at the home of Bill and Lydia Strickland on the Corrotoman River, at 4421 Black Stump Rd, Weems, VA (Lancaster County), starting at 1800.  

If visiting by boat, the anchorage is located in the eastern arm of the Corrotoman and is a beautiful spot to drop the hook. There may be a few slips available at neighbors' docks, but plan on anchoring. Dinghy ashore to the sand beach and follow the driveway to our house. Food and beverages will be provided.

Monday, June 5 - Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club

Next stop will be Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club. Indian Creek is off of Fleets Bay just north of Antipoison Creek.  Indian Creek is a lovely spot on the Bay and the setup at the club is perfect for our stop here. We plan to do a casual, potluck cocktail party on the dock, weather permitting, or inside the waterside pavillion, if necessary. Bring an appetizer to share and beverages will be provided. Dinner, for those of you who are still hungry, will be on your own boat. There is a dinghy dock and a bath house. Slip availabiltity is limited and priority will be given to our less mobile participants. Tuesday, June 6 - FBYC

We will have a potluck dinner at the club, so plan to bring a side dish or dessert and something to throw on the grill. Beverages will be provided. The leg from Indian Creek is about 18nm.

Wednesday, June 7 East River, Mobjack Bay

We will anchor off of historic Williams Wharf Landing in the East River of Mobjack Bay. This was the site of a trading port and warehouse during Revolutionary times and was an active maritime center until the mid 1800's. Dinghy ashore for a potluck cocktail party. Bring an appetizer to share and BYOL. Dinner on your boat, if you go away hungry...The leg from FBYC is about 32nm.

Thursday, June 8 - York River Yacht Haven

We will wrap up the cruise at York River Yacht Haven on Sarah's Creek with a tour of the nearby Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in the afternoon and a Low Country Boil that evening. Please contact Lisa Pittman at lpittmann@suntexmarinas.com or 804-642-2156, ext. 101, as soon as possible with yacht details and electrical requirements. The group rate will be $1.50/ft and reference this cruise. For thos who prefer to anchor out, there is a $12 fee for the use of the dinghy dock, which incudes the use of the pool and laundry facilities. Again, beverages will be provided. The final leg is about 22nm, or less if you take the shortcut.

You may do all, or any part, of the cruise. Full cruise fee is $50 per person, which includes two dinners and beverages for all but one night. Partial cruise fee is $25/10 per person, depending on which night. Slip reservations are the responsibility of each boat.
