Drop Dead Date for Dinner Reservations is June 30th!!!
Fishing Bay Yacht Club Cruising Group
Fireworks Cruise July 5-7, 2024
When: July 6th in Reedville for dinner and fireworks. Happy hour on one or more boats 5:00+/-; a group dinner at the Reedville Market at 7:00 (dinghy to restaurant’s piers); return to boats for fireworks around 9:15 pm. No pre-cruise meeting but do plan to attend the Club’s July 4th social and picnic (register in advance).
Where: anchor in Cockrell’s Creek north of the old smokestack after passing Tim’s Point and off of the Crazy Crab and Reedville Market areas in the east branch of the creek. The Reedville Market is a large white building with large windows and decks on the waterside and new piers in front. Montgomery’s will be there early and have the club burgee flying on their Catalina 350 with white hull and dark blue canvas. “Salty” will monitor Channel 16 on the 6th and our phone numbers are below.
What to bring: BYOB, snacks, cheeses, etc. to share at happy hour before dinner.
Nautical details: Enter the Great Wicomico passing Fleeton Point to the north. Turn north into Cockrell’s Creek after Red Marker #6; reported water depth is 12-15’ with good anchoring. See attached chart. Look out for fish nets on the north side of the Wicomico entrance. Anchor out spot is approximately 28 nm from Jackson Creek entrance and Little Bay/Dividing Creek entrance is about the halfway point; both measured as a straight run along the buoys.
Who: Montgomery’s, Cutler’s, Schott’s, Linbloom’s, Sirles’s, Gregory’s, J. Miller and guest, Koedel’s and Long’s (4). Total of 20 as of 6/19.
Cruise Options: night prior and/or after in Little Bay/Dividing Creek or Mill Creek. Make plans on your own or with others. Please share those with the trip captains and we will share with those on the cruise so folks can team up if desired.
Activities: The 6th is the 150th anniversary of Reedville and there are plenty of activities on land for those interested. We’ve been forewarned the community will be very busy and stretched to their limits on the 6th. See Reedville Fisherman’s Museum website for details: 5k walk/run (8:00am), beer and food garden (11am-2:30pm), parade (3:00pm) and a self-guided tour of the lovely old homes. An ice cream shop is close and Fawn’s Pastry and Coffee shop is .8 miles from the Market. Reedville Market has a Sunday Brunch 10am-2pm.
Other tidbits: Parking will be very limited on the 6th; car cruisers allow plenty of time. Cell coverage is poor; Verizon’s the best. No grocery stores or source of ice near-by. The restaurant has new piers; boaters are welcome to them at no charge, but there is no power or water. We’ll use them for the dinghies. A few slips are at the Crazy Crab and the Museum; call them for capacity and costs. Jennings Boatyard, Buzzard Point and Fairport Marinas, on the western side of creek, have fuel, ice and pump out per the Cruising Guide, but not confirmed.
Weather: Trip captains will make a call on the weather on the 4th or 5th; an email will go to all registrants if the trip is cancelled.
Dinner: Margaret and I had dinner at the Market recently and met with the manager to work out details. It was a great dinner with reasonable prices; the menu is below.
