Great weather, great racing, and great people, is the best description of the 2010 Annual One Design Regatta. 118 boats competed in eleven different fleets during two days of the nicest weather we have seen in a while. Saturday presented temperatures in the 80s and a gentle breeze out of the east. Sunday the temperatures remained mild while the winds picked up providing all fleets with plenty of breeze and spirited racing.
This years event saw record breaking attendance from the Flying Scot Fleet with 36 boats registered. Additionally, the San Juan 21s showed up again with the largest numbers to date. For the first time in many years a Windmill fleet consisting of 7 boats joined us. We hope they enjoyed themselves and will make FBYC a regular stop on their regatta circuit. Of course we had a good showing from the Front Runners, Albacores, Typhoons, and Hampton One Designs. FBYC will be hosting the Hamptons again this weekend at their Nationals. Lasers and Laser Radials had good participation with 9 boats in each fleet. Last, but by no means least, 15 Optis and 7 Green Fleet Optis raced this weekend.
While the weather was good and the food was great, the thing that made the 2010 Annual One Design Regatta successful was the people. I cannot thank the folks who volunteered to help put this event on enough. The thing that is nice about being an event chair is that you often get to take credit for other peoples hard work! Rick Klein, James Jacob, and Mark Hayes were terrific PROs who put together very professional race management teams on each of the three courses. Matt Lambert and Kevin Cross did a great job with the food and bar. Veronica and Emily Hinckle orchestrated the breakfasts, made RC lunches and basically helped in every aspect of this event.
Thank you all!
