(Race date - Saturday, May 17; entry deadline - Friday, May 16).

ROUND DELMARVA 400 EXPECTED ARRIVAL AT SALT PONDS (Hampton): This is a cruisers rally, not a race, but you know what they say about anytime there are two sailboats on the Bay - they tend to want to see who can cruise faster!  Weather permitting, the Rally will leave Solomons this afternoon, arrive at Salt Ponds tomorrow morning, and depart for the Virginia Capes on Wednesday morning.  The event is sponsored primarily  by Nautech Enterprises and SpinSheet Magazine along with Viking Life Saving, Inc., Quantum Sail Design Group, Weems & Plath, Chesapeake Rigging, Jack Martin & Associates, INAMAR, Otter Creek Brewing, and Mount Gay Rum.  After this year's rally, the event will run every odd numbered year.  For info call Nautech at (410) 573-1089 or check the web at www.nautechenterprises.com

First they burned their socks, and now they are going to bless their feet - ooops, FLEET!  John Ritter said Langley Yacht Club will have plenty of barbecue at the Blessing of the Fleet this coming Saturday, May 17th, as well as a USCG Safety Inspection Team for those who are interested in having their boats checked out.  For info contact John Ritter by email at   JohnRitter@aol.com

There were OPTIS sailing at the mouth of Sunset Creek (Hampton) on Mother's Day afternoon.  That means there had been OptiMoms (along with OptiPops and OptiFriends) unloading OPTIS on the Moms' major holiday.  Talk about a good Mom!  (The OPTIS were part of the HYC Spring Sailing Program for juniors.)

Rappahannock River YC and Fishing Bay YC teamed up for the 2003 Mosquito Point Series (2 races) and some familiar names topped the day's final standings: PHRF A: Strother Scott, Loose Cannon, J/105; PHRF B: Allan Heyward, La Maga, Frers 33; PHRF C:  Jason/Will Angus, Brass Monkey; PHRF Non-Spin:  David Hazlehurst, Oracle, Dehler 34.

Pasquatank Yacht Club is now the home of Hampton Roads expatriate Emory Morgan, who is ever so capably handling a lot of race committee chores there.  Emory and Evelyn are the parents of HOD past national champion sailor Leigh Morgan.

Wedding plans are in the works for  Joe Femino (DILYSI, Tripp 33) when he returns from his current Navy overseas assignment.   Joe's bride-to-be is Nikki Garn, sister of Michelle Garn. Michelle and Paul Garn are familiar faces crewing on friends' boats, especially Sea Star and Woof, and performing race management duties from their own Stormy Weather.

Christopher Newport University head sailing coach Dan Winters will be inducted in the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Hall of Fame in Detroit next month.  Dan has given and continues to give much to sailors of all ages and this is a well deserved honor.

'Tis the season for fleet blessings and flag raisings and southern Bay clubs following the long honored tradition recently included Hampton YC, Rappahannock River YC, and Old Point Comfort YC.

MURPHY'S LAW:   There are many things that are taboo on a race course - like pulling up a crab pot or hitting a mark.  When you hit a mark, the penalty is to get clear of everyone immediately (not whenever you feel like it) and do a 360 degree (one tack and one gybe) turn.  The penalty is not to "re-round" the mark.  So... once you do your proper 360, all is forgiven. (See RRS 31)  However, the crabber whose pot you pulled up may not be as easy to placate. Living to race, racing to live. /s/ Murphy the Racing Beagle
