onThe maxi-cat PlayStation is at Bay Point Marina at the mouth of Little Creek in Norfolk. Steve Fossett is waiting for the right weather pattern to develop, so that he can make a run at the 24 Hour Record of sailing. The current record is held by Maiden 2 (Thompson/Darvelid/Cahalan) and was set on June 12-13, 2002. PlayStation will have to beat 694.78 nautical miles to take the record. The Fossett web site gives more details at http://www.fossettchallenge.com Better check PlayStation out while you can - word is she won't be here long. And, while you are standing beside her on the dock, look at the helmsman's location. Then, visualize the trip he must make when they tack!
Tyler Moore trampled the 505 fleet in the HYC Trapeze Regatta. He won the 2-day event with 9 1st places and one 2nd. Macy Nelson finished second in the 10 race / 1 throw-out regatta (19 points) and Henry Amthor was 3rd with 26 points. The 505s blasted around in gusts of 30+ on Saturday as the race committee (headed by Ben Weeks) got in 6 races. The Hampton One Designs, scheduled to race only on Saturday, decided to stay ashore and live to fight another day - a capsized HOD is not a pretty thing.
Cape Henry Cup canceled Saturday due to weather conditions at the mouth or the Bay. Race chairman Scott Almond used morning reports from the south island of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel along with other reliable data in making the decision. Scott also said he will be returning racers' entry fees later this week. This makes the second consecutive year that Mother Nature has done in this special racers' favorite. BBSA sponsors this southern Bay distance race.
J24 Fleet 71 raced Sunday and newcomer Chris Johnson, Blue Bus, served notice on the fleet by winning all three races. Fleet 71 has gotten used to the "foul weather plague" that has followed them throughout the Spring; Sunday seemed balmy. RESULTS: 1. Chris Johnson, Blue Bus; 2. Bert Johnson, Rocket J; 3. Alan Bomar, roundabout. (RC chairman: John McCarthy)

The beautiful blue Dehler 39, Bellaris, will not finish the racing season according to skipper and owner Claus Jullman. Bellaris raced in PHRF A on a regular basis in the southern Bay for about one year.

MURPHY'S LAW: As the Racing World Turns: So, you messed up and fouled another boat. Unless the sailing instruction says otherwise, you can take a 720 degrees penalty turnand keep racing. You have to get clear of other boats immediately and do your turns - that's 2 tacks and 2 gybes. There is an important however however. RRS 44.1 says "...if [you] caused serious damage or gained a significant advantage in the race or series by [the] breach [you] shall retire." (See RRS 44.1 and 44.2) Living to race, racing to live. /s/ Murphy the Racing Beagle
