FBYC AUTUMN SERIES IS A WRAP - SHAMROCK and LA MAGA rule the Series:  Bob Rock's Shamrockwon the combined spinnaker fleet and the PHRF A Division at the FBYC 2 Race Autumn Series.  Miles Booth, Shenanigan, took second among combined spinnies.  On the Non-Spin side of the course, Allan Heyward, La Maga, was first and Eric Powers, Nercid finished second.  PRO: Randy Alley

FEATHER, JONATHAN, CALLINECTES, ARIA,  and IMPULSEwin Frostbite Fleets:  A windless day and a glassy sea made Race 4 of the Frostbite Series a non-event Sunday.  The abandoned race was the final of the Series and left sailors in a week long time lock - you are where you were.  SERIES FINAL STANDINGS:  PHRF A: 1.Phil Briggs, Feather; 2.Skip Amory, Woof; 3.Christian Schaumloffel, Mirage. PHRF B:  1.Bill Gibbings, Jonathan; 2.Rusty Burshell, Cool Change; 3.Paul Andersen, Titillation. PHRF C:  1.Ben Cuker, Callinectes; 2.Louie Lewis, Incentive; 3.Roger Worthen, Calamity. PHRF NS-2hs:  1.Pam Burdett, Aria; 2.Dave Taylor, Insolvent. PHRF NS-1hs  1.Tom Peddy,Impulse; 2.Lester Knight, Vagabond De.   PRO: Dick Boykin; RC Boat Skipper: Glenn Giles

Olympic 470 Trials:  Steven Hunt and Eben Russell, our homeboys who have been sailing for this specific goal since before 1999, are undoubtedly in pain this morning.  The Trials did not go as they had hoped, worked for, and dreamed.  When all was said and done Paul Forester and Kevin Burnham overwhelmed our guys and the entire fleet.  With one more day to sail, Steven and Eben were in 3rd place with no way to overtake the leaders.  No, they are not going to the Olympics. But you know what, they came as close as most of us would ever dare to even dream.  Steven and Eben had the courage to believe and to try.  >From all of us who rode with you, Steven Hunt and Eben Russell, you're the best!

DO THE GABOON - WIN THE SPITOON!  Sunday, November 23.  Start line and finish line is in front of Hampton Yacht Club.  This is a staggered start race, i.e. the PHRF corrections are figured in at the start of the race instead of after the finish.  So, slower boats start first and faster boats later.  A Farr 40 will start sometime Monday, the 24th.  The course is 8 miles long and pre-set (boats do not leave the Harbor).  For info on your starting time, entry procedures, etc., contact Phil Briggs at (757) 244-5477.  This is a must do race!

HYC 2003 FALL REGATTA:  From George Panayides comes word that more than a dozen boats ( one 420 and one Vanguard 15 infiltrated the Lasers) sailed in the one day event hosted by Hampton YC weekend before last.  Henry Amthor won the Laser fleet. Kudos to the race committee led by Kim Kelly - they got in 7 races in just over two hours.

LIGHTNING STRIKE:  Saturday before last, six Lightnings, racing  on a separate venue, but close to the HYC Fall Regatta, got in 6 races in the first of the two day scheduled event.  Sunday's racing turned out to be a cold, wet, but fun sail for the Lightnings, but no actual competition.  The racers say they had a great time and,  to paraphrase Arnold, will be back!

It's a B-25!  Frank Silva brought his "other boat" north from the Tarheel state to Hampton Roads for a racing sea trial yesterday.  Phantom, a slick, quick B-25 was out for a shake down in the PHRF B fleet in the final Frostbite race.  There was not enough wind to turn a spectra feather, but the Carolina contingent at least got her on the water.  Frank's larger boat is Sea-Ya, a Bavaria 44, that was part of the southern Bay gang that sailed at Screwpile 2003 in the PHRF B fleet.

When racers do the 2003 Gaboon Race, this coming Sunday, they will become a part of history.  This will be the last Gaboon and the last race run off the current HYC fixed docks.  Demolition for the pier replacement project begins on or about December 1.

MURPHY'S LAW:   Master and Commander - awesome flick!  John Ritter from Langley YC said he felt like he actually was on the ship premiere night.  My advice - take your Dramamine@, slip on your Sea Bands@, and fasten your PFD before you take your seat. Living to race, racing to live. /s/Murphy the Racing Beagle
