BAY RACERS: One of the important parts of being race
ready involves having your paperwork up to snuff. Here's a
checklist of things best done now, not the morning of the day before the
regatta.
USSA: US Sailing - These are the grand Pooh-Bahs of
racing. This organization, among other things, represents our nation in
the world of sailboat racing. Their services and programs are best
seen at their web site www.ussailing.org For membership
info you may call 1-800-US SAIL.
CBYRA:
Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association - Among other services,
provides oversight for sanctioned racing on the Chesapeake Bay - also, sponsors
ever popular CBYRA High Point Awards each year for PHRF and MORC class, various
Cruising One Design classes, various One Design classes, Multihull class, Beach
Cat class and junior classes. You must be a member of CBYRA to be eligible
for the annual High Point Awards. To join, call (410) 269-1194 or go to
the CBYRA web site at www.cbyra.org Renewal application forms are in the
mail already. Each member yacht club has a designated CBYRA

PHRF: Performance Racing Handicap Fleet of the Chesapeake -
mainly assigns and certifies handicaps for those racing in the PHRF
classes. Rating Certificates MUST be renewed each
year. To sail in a sanctioned race PHRF class, i.e.
A, B, C, Non-Spin, you must have a current, valid rating certificate. It
is extremely important to initiate application for your 2004 rating
certificate now, as PHRF handicappers issue certificates for more
than 1,000 individual racers on the Bay each year - get your application in
the pile NOW! For application forms call (410) 414-3270 or check the web

member yacht club has a PHRF delegate and there is a specific handicapper on the
handicappers board assigned responsibilility for each of our region's

CCV: Cruising Club of Virginia - Beginning it's 41st
year, CCV provides a number of services to southern Bay clubs and racers,
including the annual CCV Racing Guide, race management workshop, racing
rules clinic, and popular season long CCV High Point Awards Series
(+ 10 races). CCV offers a Racing Membership as well as a Club
Membership. In order to enter CCV races, all of which are CBYRA
sanctioned, you must have a current, valid 2004 PHRF rating certificate.
CCV races are open to all, but to be scored for the annual CCV High Point
Awards, you must be a member of CCV. Expect your renewal membership
forms to be mailed soon or get your 2004 application
at the web site www.ccvracing.org (For info

Membership in CCV meets the "yacht club" membership criteria for CBYRA
membership.
COD: Cruising One Design Division of CBYRA - This
is a Division of CBYRA with High Point Awards and all the other benefits CBYRA
offers. In 2003 the following classes of boats were represented in the
CBYRA COD Division: Alberg 30, Cal 25, Catalina 27, J/24, J/30, J/35,
J/105, Melges 24, Tripp 26 and Triton. The Beneteau 36.7 class is expected
to be added in 2004. (For information regarding membership in these

OD: One Design Division of CBYRA - This is a Division of
CBYRA with High Point Awards and all the other benefits CBYRA offers. In

Design, International 470, International 505, J/22, Jet 14, Laser, Lightning,

Junior Division - The Junior Division of

publication, "The Red Book," which is a must for all junior racers on the

Yacht Club or Sailing Association: Last, but certainly not least,
these are the folks who sponsor the races, administer the races, and best link
you to racing. Join 'em and support 'em.

o'clock this morning, all good racers who stayed here to protect the
homefront should stand and raise a hearty [coffee] toast to
the southern Bay contingent at Key West Race Week . After
all, someone had to go!
MIRAGE
2nd IN CLASS IN FORT LAUDERDALE TO KEY WEST RACE!
Christian Schaumloffel brought his Hobie 33, Mirage,
in second in his 5 boat PHRF class and 7th overall in the
27 boat monohull PHRF fleet in this year's 160 mile dash from Lauderdale to Key
West. Congrats!

505 Midwinters -
The 505 team of Macy Nelson (Baltimore) and
Tom Hurwitch (Hampton) finished 3rd in the fleet of 14 at the
2004 International 505 Midwinters held in St. Petersburg weekend before this
past. For the record, Ethan Bixby and Erik Boothe (St. Petersburg) won the
event.
