Ocean View Provides Change of Venue:
At least two long standing sanctioned races will give their
participants a change of scenery in 2004. The CCV Founders Race
(August 1) and the HYC Big Boat Annual Regatta (June 19) will be
sailed off Ocean View.
More than 200
racers attended the annual CCV Racing Rules Seminar last week to hear
Tucker Thompson speak on strategy, tactics, and the rules. Among those in
attendance was CBYRA President John Dodge who made a special
effort to be on hand. In addition, the Hampton University
Sailing Team attended as a group along with head coach Carolyn
Grant.
SORC joins Premiere
Racing: The ACURA SORC event, as of 2005, will be managed and
organized by Premiere Racing, the same group that runs Key West Race Week.
Sounds like a lot more racers will be spending parts of January and February in
Florida.
Fleet Bits and
Bites: John Scott and Brian Deibler have entered Check
Six, Nelson/Marek 30, in the PHRF A fleet. This brings the A Gang to
a total of 9 official entries two weeks before the first serious showdown
(CCV Spring Series #1, April 25). The Old Dominion Sailing
Team has an entry in PHRF B under the tutaledge of head coach
Mitch Brindley; the Monarchs will race Blade
Runner, Jeanneau 37. The PHRF C fleet picks up a couple of
newcomers: Mike Austin, sailing out of York River Yacht
Club, brings his Beneteau FC 8 25.7, Moving On, into the fray and
Pamela Burdett moves up [from 2003 non-spin] with
Aria, her Tartan 34C. And, one more addition to PHRF C is a
Soverel 26 whose new name is TBD (To Be Determined,
or...); long-in-the-tooth southern Bay racers will
recognize Orange Blossom Special making a comeback under the hand
of Rob Pierce who raced Wild Rose back in the day.
And, already committed to the starting line are 10 PHRF Non-Spin
fleet entries.
More Weekday Racing To
Begin: The Willoughby Racers (BBSA) open up
their season long Thursday Nights racing in Norfolk's Willoughby ("Little") Bay
this week on April 15; Portsmouth Boat Club will start up their
Friday nights Barnacle Series, this week (April 16). Week after this,
Wednesday 21st, York River Yacht Club
and BBSA's Little Creek SA group will swing into
action. Points of contact: BBSA/WR - Scott Almond, (757)
471-2663; PBC - Joe Creecy, jccreecy@hotmail.com; YRYC - Mike
Mastracci, (757) 872-9564; BBSA/LCSA - John/Mary Bergman (757)

when = good crewbie. There are ample opportunities for any southern Bay

MURPHY'S
LAW: FLAGS - for goodness sake - get your fleet flags
and get 'em on your boat now. And, get that protest flag while you are at
it. And, put it somewhere handy in your cockpit. It's part
of the game in our "self-policing" sport. Go now, call your sailmaker and
order your flags. Living to race, racing to live. /s/
