The 2010 USODA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS will be hosted by the Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville, VA as follows

Team Race (July 17-19, 2010)

  • check-in and measurement Friday, July 16, 2010
  • Racing on Saturday thru Monday

Girls (July 20, 2010)

  • check-in and measurement Monday, July 19, 2010
  • Racing on Tuesday, July 20
  • Nationals (July 21-24, 2010)

    • check-in and measurement Tuesday, July 20, 2010
    • Racing Wednesday thru Saturday

There will be minimal opportunity to check-in the morning of the first day of racing for each event. It is anticipated that a Notices of Race will be available by February 1, 2010.

Opti Nationals WebsiteFishing Bay Yacht Club has launched a state-of-the art event website http://optinationals2010.org for the Optimist Nationals. The website was built using modern blogging software and has many features for participants, parents and fans to get information about the event and to follow along as it happens. Be sure to check back often for updates. Most of our regatta information will be posted to or linked from this website.

Features:

News – Will be updated periodically before the event. During the event will have several dispatches a day about the schedule, weather, racing, results and evening activities.

Shop – Although it is not yet avilable there will be a shopping cart to purchase FBYC and regatta apparel and accessories as well …

FALL CLEAN UP DAY - NOVEMBER 21, 2009

On Saturday, November 21, at 0900, we’ll need as many volunteers as possible to spruce up FBYC’s grounds. We’ll be raking leaves and various other tasks so please bring your rakes and shovels. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided at the main clubhouse at 0830 to get you started. With sufficient help, we should finish around lunchtime, at which time there will be pizza and beverages.

Picture 260 With over 48 hours so far of high winds and as of Friday morning with 4 ½ft of water above normal high tide the Yacht Club has survived with only minor dock damage, i.e. boards missing, dock light submerged. The worst damage was to the east pier east out board pilings 4th in from the outside transient piling (Waddy and Ted’s) Piling snapped off after Waddy’s port bow line parted and was forced to take the impact of several thousand lbs all at once, with Waddy’s and Ted’s boats vying for position of slip dominance some paint was traded and just make sure that the two boats decided that Invictus should get some abuse just …

IN MEMORIAM DABNEY OVERTON III 7/30/63 – 11/9/09

Dabney Overton III, age 46, died on November 9, 2009, in Richmond, VA. He is survived by his sister, Hannah Overton, and nieces, Emma and Lizzie Schmidt, all of Tappahannock; a half-sister, Mallory Overton McKendry, of Jacksonville, FL; and his father, Dabney Overton Jr., of Harrisonburg. Dabney was a graduate of Aylett Country Day School and St. Christopher’s School. He graduated from Washington & Lee University in 1986.

Dabney became a member of FBYC in 1999 after he and Matt Braun bought a Front Runner, which they campaigned together for two years. By the time he joined FBYC, however, Dabney had spent many years sailing and racing with …
