Mark Round Team Race Day 2Sailing on Sunday at the 2010 USODA Layline Team Race Nationals started early with a 0930 first warning to take advantage of the morning wind. The wind began out of the west, south-west at 8-10 knots. Since only 24 races were completed yesterday for the first round of the round robin, we had to get in 12 more races to complete the round before going on to round 2.

The Team of Lauderdale Yacht Club (#4) was the top-ranked team coming out of the first round. They were followed by the LISOT Black Team, LISOT Blue Team, and Team FOR A. Those four teams made up the top group going into round two and the rest of the teams were seeded below them in the remaining 5 groups.

Mid-Day postponement Team Race Day 2Round 2 started in the early afternoon once the sea breeze began to fill out of the east. The course was kept short, which created close racing, required great seamanship and showed quick tactical decision making.

Several weather systems appeared on the horizon, threatening our completion of round 2. Thankfully most of the rain moved off to the north and didn’t hit the course directly. The final race in the Foxtrot was finished around 5:45.

Signal BoatDespite the long day on the water, the volunteers, race committee and coaches did a great job keeping everything moving smoothly so we could get the round completed.

Round 2 results are as follows: LISOT Blue, Lauderdale YC 4, ISV 1, and LOOT gold. Those four teams will be in the Alpha group competing for the top spot on Monday.

Another early start has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. The first warning will again be at 0930. The format for racing on Monday will be announced at the competitors’ meeting tomorrow morning at 0800.
