SPECIAL MEETING CALLED BY ALEX ALVIS, REAR COMMODORE, TO DISCUSS POOL RULES AND LIFEGUARD POLICIES - MAY 1, 2010

There will be a meeting at 1700 hrs. (5:00 p.m.) Saturday afternoon, May 1st, in the upstairs room of the FBYC clubhouse in order to discuss pool rules and lifeguard policies. Your attendance and input will be welcomed. The outcome of this meeting will result in a proposal submitted at the next Board meeting by members of the Flag in order to address certain member complaints regarding lifeguard performance last season. Last week, I drove to Marblehead, MA, to acquire a Sonar, the one-design to be sailed in September in Newport, RI in the New York Yacht Club’s Qualifying Series for the 2011 Invitational Cup. That Sonar (No. 725) is now parked in the one-design area at FBYC with a banner saying “FBYC/NYYC Qualifying Campaign”. More detail on the Series and the Club’s campaign are provided in last month’s Log and Lud Kimbrough’s article in the next Log, so I don’t dwell on those details. For the Optimist Nationals we've created a separate email list to keep everyone up to date with what is going on with the regatta.

Each week leading up to the regatta we’ll be sending out a weekly digest of any regatta-related news. In addition to the weekly updates, emails with specific information may be sent from our event chairs, PRO, or others involved with the administration of the event.

During the regatta, we will be sending out daily recaps of the day’s activities.

John and Linda Dodge of Richmond, Virginia are in the second month of their Project Sails to Save Haiti, a donation program designed to get as many used sails ( " the bigger the better but we will take anything" ) as well as spinnaker poles, lines, and anything else one might think of to construct shelter in an effort to help the over 600,000 Haitians who have been left out in the exposure due to the January 12th earthquake that killed over 230,000.
