Well worth noting  is the US SAILING announcement recognizing the southern Bay's Fishing Bay Yacht Club as a recipient of the One-Design Regatta Award,  one of only three One-Design national awards given each year.  US SAILING said,  "...Fishing Bay Yacht Club (FBYC) of Deltaville, Va. won the 2010 Regatta Award for the excellence in development, promotion, and management performed by organizers and sponsors of the 2010 USODA (United States Optimist Dinghy Association) Layline Nationals on July 17-25, 2010.  Co-chairs Noel Clinard and Jay Buhl, along with webmaster Jon Deutsch were recognized for demonstrating extraordinary individual creativity and contribution to the year’s most innovative one-design event of national significance. From the early days on the Chesapeake Bay to the yacht races held all along the Bay today, the Chesapeake’s winds have played an outsized role in the region’s economy and culture.

But some scientists have concluded that those wind patterns have undergone a historic shift. And this change in average wind direction has had an impact not only on sailing, but also on water quality in the Bay. The Sailing Events Schedule is now complete and final. You can see the list of events in the left column on this page and if you click here you see the same list and can filter it by division. This is the result of an outstanding effort produced by our members representing all four sailing divisions and all of our fleets. A great deal of discussion occurred in order to arrive at some consensus in defining a program which appeals to the various factions of our sailors. TOP DOGS ON THE SOUTHERN BAY and now they have the bones to prove it!   On Saturday night CCV awarded bonafides and trophies to winners of the 2010 High Point, and then celebrated by dancing the night away at the new party venue on Fort Monroe.  SEA STAR (David Eberwine and guest skipper, Brian McCauley), COOL CHANGE (Rusty Burshell),  ROUNDABOUT (Alan Bomar), and BLACK WIDOW (Leo Wardrup) took first place in PHRF A, B, C, and Non-Spin respectively.   The 2010 season included 9 days of racing.  Spring and Fall Series, each 3 days,  the Moonlight Triangle, the Founders Race, and the third day of Southern Bay Race Week all figured in the High Point tally.  …

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, November 13, at 9:00 am, we will have our annual FALL CLEAN-UP of the Club Grounds. We will gather in the Main Clubhouse around 8:30 am for coffee and task assignments. Usual tasks include leaf raking, mulching and pruning. Bring your favorite yard tool or use ours.
