In order to bring improvements and needed changes to the FBYC website, we're going to make the site unavailable for a few hours beginning sometime after 10am on Monday, June 3.  We hope to complete our work in a few hours, but more time – days - may well be needed.  Viewing content on the site may work normally or the site may be simply down. The 2013 Down The Bay Race was one for the record books.  It was an epic downwind race that smashed the 30-year old record.  FBYC boats taking part included Excitation, Nanuq, Mad Hatter, Wind Dancer & Schiehallion.

Bob Fleck's Mad Hatter won the PHRF-B division and finished 8th overall.  Brad Miller's Schiehallion finished 2nd in PHRF-C and was 12th overall.  Glen Doncaster's  Nanuq was 3rd in A2 and 13th overall. Complete Results.

URBANNA RACE OFF / ROSEGILL ON

The Deltaville to Urbanna Race scheduled for today, May 25th, has been canceled because of high winds blowing down the river. The social event at Rosegill this afternoon and night will take place as scheduled.

A word to the wise: Driving under the influence this weekend will be severly punished in Middlesex County.

Memorial Day Weekend Private Events:
 
During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend there will be two private events taking place in the main clubhouse. The first event begins Saturday, May 25, at 6:00 p.m. and the second Sunday, May 26, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Although members will not have full access to the main clubhouse during those events, they will have access to all other facilities including the pool, beaches, main clubhouse bathrooms via exterior doors, grills, and cook-out tent on the Fishing Bay side and all Jackson Creek facilities unencumbered. The final high point standings are posted. Awards will be presented at Rosegill this coming Saturday. Congratulations to the skippers who placed in their classes. Thanks to everyone for a successful 2013 Spring Series. Don’t forget that this weekend is Race to Urbanna. The list of racing entries is a little light so if you intend to race please sign up. While you are at it, remember to sign up for the Long Distance series that starts June 22^nd with the Moonlight Regatta followed by ice cream with Goslings topping. Finally, good luck to those doing Down the Bay starting this Friday.

Offshore Fleet:

The interim high point results have been posted to the FBYC web site. This is for informational purposes only and the scores are not final. The results are organized by fleet. There are 3 pages in each result set. The first page is the summary of daily scores as recorded in low point. The second page is the raw high point conversions, scores, and calculated participation. The third page is the current standings summary and ranking; excluding boats whose participation level did not meet the 51% or greater eligibility requirement. The third page is the page that shows the "final" series results once they are final of course.

Since when can the weathermen predict the weather, let alone the future? That’s what many racers were asking before Saturday’s Offshore Spring Series III coupled with a little Back to the Future storm reference. What started out as a miserable day early in the morning turned out to be warm, partly sunny day with 10-15 kt. breezes out of the southwest. To top it off it was a great day of sailing and racing.

Certainly, one thing unpredictable was the results and nobody’s clock was safe this day. In PHRF A, Nanuq not only won PHRF A, but they received the best score for the day with a total of 4 points receiving 2 bullets and a 2^nd. It …

Offshore fleet: Spring Series III is this Saturday and after a nearly three week hiatus it’s time to get back on the water. There are currently four races completed in the series and competition is tight. Remember that we are using the High Point Percentage Scoring (HPPS) system this year to determine series results. If you have only raced one day of the series, you are currently at 50% eligibility (2 out of 4 races). While HPPS is designed to account for a missed day, you must sail in 51% or more of the total races to be eligible for overall series scoring. Solid turnout for the Laser clinic and the racing that followed today - total participation was 15 sailors, of whom eight stayed for racing. The conditions were a bit blustery, with puffs in the 20's. Dan Herlihy, with a 2nd place for a throwout, sailed a consistent set of races to take the win. Mike Moore from Virginia Beach was 2nd, followed by Alain Vincey, who beat Mike Toms on a tiebreaker for 3rd. 

Results

Ric and Sharon Bauer and their able crew ran a very good afternoon of races, with six races posted.

The social, hosted by Janice Moore, was perfect topping for a chilly day on the water.
