East Dock Update: It's not too late!

David Lennarz on

Club News

I am pleased to report that we have met our fundraising goal for the Jackson Creek east dock project.  We will continue to accept contributions.  All additional contributions will reduce the amount of debt the club will incur and will reduce the overall cost of the project .  We are in the process of reviewing and signing construction contracts and expect the project to be underway in the coming weeks.   Thank you to all who have contributed so far.

Lloyd Phoenix History Article

Strother Scott on

Offshore Racing

I have now migrated almost all our history content to the new website - I ran across one of Jere's history articles describing FBYC's participation in the 1974 Lloyd Phoenix Regatta.  Due to fortuitous circumstances, Fishing Bay Yacht Club came back to win the Championship on the last day.  There may be some timely advice for our team at the US SAILING’s National Offshore Championship in Annapolis this weekend.

Excerpting from the article...

Luders 44.jpg

According to Johnny, he and his crew adopted an ultimately winning strategy for the Luders 44 in these difficult circumstances: "So our game plan turned out to be to get a clean start where the small crew could concentrate on sail trim and get this …

David Lennarz on

Commodore

Thank you to so many who have made a donation or pledge to the Jackson Creek East dock fundraiser.   We are well on our way to reaching our goal, and hope that those who have not yet given will consider a donation now.  Funding of this project through use of cash, some debt, and the generous donations of members will allow us to embark upon other important projects for the Club as well, such as repairing the Fishing Bay boat ramp.   To donate now, Login to FBYC.net, click on "Members", then "Dock Donation".  Thank you.

This Thursday FBYC members and crew will head to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD to compete in the US Offshore Championship on Navy 44s. This is the second appearance by the team led by Nanuq skipper Glenn Doncaster. In 2015 the team placed a respectable 4th out of 10 boats. This year the team includes Glenn Doncaster, Bob Fleck, Jerry Latell, Paul Wash, Matt Newborn, Han Kalkofen, and Sloan Burns. Let's support our members as they represent FBYC in the race for the Lloyd Phoenix Trophy!

Web site home page changes

Club News

We have begun the process of switching our Home Page.  Beginning tomorrow, when you visit www.fbyc.net you will no longer see a familiar site.  Instead, we have an entirely new look, much less cluttered, and with a slide show at the top featuring upcoming big events or other matters of interest.  During the year the slide show will be changed, to emphasize what is upcoming or important at FBYC.

As part of the switch, we also are switching from Zope, which is old technology, to much newer modern systems, with a Django framework and a Wagtail Content Management System.

The home page will look like this image.  Below the slide show will be the News Feed on the …
