Never can it be written that Fishing Bay Yacht Club is without members who would willingly allow a pandemic and/or hurricane to come between them and loosely organized rallye followed by a socially responsible social. This past weekend proved that that just ain’t so.
This year’s organizing committee had to adjust some of the founders’ rules that in the end, allowed a founder to claim first prize. In the Wee Dram Deed of Gift [the non-existent document that governs this annual event], the rules of competition required amendment. “Valid start times will be any time within 72 hours of the 5:30pm social Saturday.” It’s a worthy change that benefits the Cape Charles …
This year's 26th Annual Stingray Point Regatta may not look just like the others. BUT...
The racing will still be exciting. The fun quotient will still be high. And everyone can still blow off some steam, perfect those spinnaker sets and share some awesome company while on the water. We've got almost 30 competitors already signed up and we're already planning for good wind (fingers crossed!) and excellent socially-distant social activities.

The third annual Jere Dennison Legacy Regatta held this past Saturday was a remarkable success! Twelve skippers/ boats, initially signed up to race. However, because of uncertain weather conditions and other factors, only four boats ventured out into the unknown. All skippers were 70 years or older, thus all competed for the coveted First Place Vintage Skipper Award in addition to sailing in the 60 years or older division.
Kudos go to Clark Dennison, Race Chair, and his outstanding Race Committee for running an excellent event in ‘trying weather conditions’. In addition to the committee onboard Mr. Roberts, there were two mark/ chase boats on the race course. Hunter Davidson and Elizabeth Staas (Vice Commodore) on Wild Cat and Scott …

For the 81st time, FBYC hosted its Annual One Design (AOD) Regatta and the Capital District Flying Scot Championship on August 8-9 with loads of races and great participation from numerous clubs. More than 50 volunteers pulled things together and pulled off an excellent event, always keeping sailor safety and the health of everyone safeguarded.
Congratulations to all the racers and especially to:
This Saturday's Legacy Regatta honors former Commodore Jere Dennison's immense contribution to FBYC and is the opportunity to demonstrate that experience and knowledge beats youth every time! This is a one-day event for Flying Scots, classic and one-design boats with skippers over 60 years of age.

It is August at FBYC, and Junior Week rolled right into AOD. Things are somewhat different this year. Throughout this spring and summer, numerous volunteers and our staff have worked hard reopening the facilities and modifying programs and activities to make them safe for our members, guests, staff and neighbors. We have changed our habits to support social distancing, wearing masks and extended cleaning. Now, as we continue to move through our season, we need to remain vigilant and continue to reinforce these new habits.
In this update, we wish to focus on the year end events, the ongoing activities and the need to remain focused on safe practices and using common sense.
On Saturday July 25th some of the hardiest sailors at Fishing Bay joined together in the 95 degree heat to battle the forces of nature. Equipped with gloves, pruners, rakes, and shovels, volunteers participated in the first 2020 Grounds Day event. Around 25 members and non-members alike attacked areas of need across the FBYC campus.
The day began with a socially distanced welcome by Steve Montgomery, Grounds Chair. Steve thanked everyone for attending, briefed them on traditional as well as coronavirus safety issues, then laid out a well devised plan of attack. Each group was able to choose an area with required tasks. The small groups dispersed to tackle the hillside by Fishing Bay in preparation for junior week, clear …
