FBYC Fresh Water System Down

Joe Roos on

Commodore

The FBYC water system is experiencing problems with the feed to the treatment unit and currently cannot produce fresh water. We are running off the storage tank and have shut down water to several places throughout the campus.

We are asking all members to make every effort to conserve water, essential use only.

We believe we have identified the failed equipment. We have a spare on hand and are currently waiting for the certified technician from our water contractor to conduct repairs.  If there are no other issues, the system is expected  to be back in operation soon.  We will keep you posted.

Thank you

Seeking Volunteers for Grounds Day - Saturday, July 25

Katie Yudkin on

New Building

Mark your calendars! FBYC grounds chair, Steve Montgomery and Katie Yudkin are looking for volunteers to help out with grounds cleanup and beautification.

Grounds work may include: weeding, trimming and pruning in preparation for new mulch and plants in the fall.

Some tools are provided but please bring gloves, clippers, trimmers, lopping shears and rakes if you have them.

The end of July will be hot so bring your reusable water bottles! Food, beer and other beverages are planned for a relaxing end of our day.

In thinking about future grounds maintenance, we encourage those who are interested to adopt a spot or small area to help maintain throughout the year. This is meant to be a very manageable time …

We are sad to note the passing of Brooks Zerkel on July 3, 2020.  Having sailed with many of us and served as a highly qualified race official for major Club events and elsewhere for many years, Brooks was an active force in the life of FBYC,  A more complete tribute to Brooks will appear in the next few days.

It was light, very light...the air that we sailed in.  Brad Squires and company did a nice job getting us started downwind in a whisper and making a call to use the short course, 15 miles.  Jon Deutsch took amazing pictures of the spinnaker boats as they left the starting area.  They can be found here.  Thirteen boats, in four classes, enjoyed an absolutely beautiful moonrise in a perfectly clear indigo sky.  A glorious night to be quarantined on the Chesapeake Bay.  Mayo Tabb and Excitation finished first in A with an adjusted time of 4h52m.  Bob and Lisa Fleck, absorbing Hatter's new handicap, finished first in B and first overall with an adjusted time of 4h45m.  Brad Miller …
