In case you missed this on social media (and who doesn't need to take a break from facebook!)...

David and Veronica Hinckle's Perseverance dramatically recognized America's armed services members with this grand flag on Memorial Day.  Not our usual celebration and start to summer, but perhaps a solitary boat flying the colors was most appropriate this year.  This single post went viral--in the best of ways--garnering almost 5,000 impressions in just two days.  FBYC also created quite a stir on the local Deltaville FB page and generated tremendous goodwill among our neighbors.

Due to CoVid 19, at this time FBYC is not open to non-members for transient docking or boaters looking for reciprocal privileges. Consistent with Gowrie Group Best Practices for Sailing Organizations and the Virginia Marine Trades Association, FBYC dockage is for members only.  

Harry Sindle, a nationally recognized sailor and friend of many FBYC members,  died in Gloucester, VA this past month.

The YAM family regatta will be held remotely through Virtual Regatta (in shore). 

Be ready to race Saturday, May 23rd at 11:00 AM! Zoom happy hour to follow at 12:00 for results and chatting! In order to participate please send an email to mceb4989@me.com with your name and username before Friday at 8:00 PM:    

Responses will be collected and an email providing passwords for each race will be sent out before hand.

After reviewing recent guidelines from the CDC and the Commonwealth of Virginia on standards for being allowed to safely host camps, FBYC is rescheduling Junior Week to August 2nd - 6th.

The new dates for our Junior Week will start on Sunday, August 2nd at 1 pm and will end on Thursday, August 6th at 12 pm. By rescheduling Junior Week to the new dates, we believe we can provide our sailing classes in a more safe and deliberate manner reducing the potential risks to our sailors, families, volunteers and staff.

Thank you all for the great submissions to the first Junior Week T-Shirt Contest. We gathered all the suggestion and anomalously submitted the designs to Commodore Tracy Schwarzchild for his decision. After much great deliberation, he chose this years T-Shirt Winner as the design submitted by Charlotte Stass. Congratulations Charlotte!!!

Charlotte's design will be sent to our graphic designer as the official art direction.

I'm please to report, we're continuing improvements at the Club.  Here's a few of the updated maintenance items:

• The Fishing Bay Dock has been repaired and is open for use.
• Pilings around the Jackson Creek Docks are being replaced this week.
• The Junior Field is open for Junior Program participants' boats.
• Bathhouse restrooms will reopen Friday morning.
• The Clubhouse, Fannie's, all porches, and the pool remain closed.
• Additionally, the Fishing Bay Dock is not suitable for overnight dockage  - a number of pilings are aging and cannot take the strain.

I'll keep everyone posted on our progress.

Opti Kids is postponed to July 25-26, and August 1-2

Over the past weeks, the Junior Leadership Committee in coordination with Fishing Bay Yacht Club Flag has been monitoring updates from the Federal, State, and Local authorities as it relates to activities at the Club. As you may have seen, FBYC is currently closed until June 10th and the Club is making its best effort to resume activities as soon as it can.

Currently, Virginia is expected to open May 15th and enter Phase 1 of the re-opening plan. This phase is forecasted to last 2-4 weeks before Phase 2 can begin. The philosophy of the Junior Program at Fishing Bay has always been to support getting juniors on the …

Eighty--yes that is 8-0 lovers of sailing joined online for FBYC's 31st Crew Training Seminar!

Our virtual online webinar attracted people from numerous states and from all over the commonwealth of Virginia.  Everyone was eager to simply gather together to learn about our club, our racing and cruising programs and more. 

Kudos to George Burke who began the 90-minute session with his entry-level and often humorous presentation, "What's that called?"  (Did you know that halyard is derived from "haul on the yard?") A self-described technology neophyte, George navigated the webinar with style and skill.
