Hanging Chads? Fixed
Drawings? At one Labor Day regatta, inspired by the quality of
the post race party givaways, a skipper tried to fix the drawing by soaking his
entry slip in his rum drink before adding it to the drawing box. His
efforts were to no avail, however - the rum dissolved the print on the entry
slip!
Kudos for service:
Larry Bryant, skipper of Whisper (PHRF NS), is serving as
chairman of the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race in
mid-October.
Up the Bay on Labor
Day: CBYRA Annapolis Race Week
While the folks in the southern Bay were tightening halyards and dropping chutes
"very carefully" in hefty winds, the 190+ boats at ARW were fighting the
drifties on opening day. After Saturday, it was "Katy, bar the
door!", with wild and wooly wind on Sunday and prefect, moderate (12-15 knots)
breezes on Monday. There was a dearth of southern Bay boats represented on
the race course, but southern Bay homies Dan Tramell and
John McCarthy served on the regatta jury. During the
racing Dan served as tactician on the Naval Academy's entry, Pursuit,
and John was with the Tred Avon YC race committee for two days and the
Storm Trysail team on the final day. John Dodge,
CBYRA president and event chairman, hails from down south (FBYC, Richmond) as
well. Regatta results are available at the CBYRA regatta web site www.cbyra.org
OPTI-POPS and
OPTI-MOMS and OPTI-GRANDS and OPTI-BOYS and GIRLS: With the new
school year beginning, don't lose sight of the Optimist
Atlantic Coasts Championships on October 9 and 10, 2004, at
Fishing Bay Yacht Club near the mouth of the Rappahannock River and Deltaville,
Virginia. Check out the FBYC regatta web site at www.fbyc.net In the meantime, good luck at school this
year!

MURPHY'S LAW: While
checking out my racing T-shirt collection, I came across this one:
Sail naked! It brings color to your cheeks!
Never have worn it. Most of the time I do
sail naked and the color stays the same, brown, tan, white and furry.
I am a beagle, you know. Living to race, racing to live.
Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all
