YIKES!!! As
everybody doubtless knows, Mike Austin and the Wormley Creek bunch brought

standings. MOVIN' ON is the
CCV HIGH POINT CHAMPION in PHRF C!!! (Major apologies to
Movin' On, crew, and skipper for the headline misprint last week -
Movin' On does have the trophy to prove the
championship!).

WILLOUGHBY RACERS' HOT BUTTERED RUM

flavor of the event. RESULTS: Gold Label Fleet: 1.Checks in the
Mail, Catalina 38, Jim Williams; 2.BCNU, Morgan

Battlewagon available:
Battlewagon, John Hanna's beautiful Pearson 37, 2002
CCV PHRF A High Point Champion and multiple winner of her fleet at
Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge, is on the market. John has raced
Battlewagon on the southern Bay and beyond for 22+
years. Interested parties may contact Ron McLean at (757)
480-1073.
Speaking of boats, the JS9000 that currently
sits beside the North Sails Hampton loft on Bridge Street, belongs to
Frank Silver. The boat is 30' long and 4' wide and
has a bulb keel. She is currently awaiting new sails and expects to be headed to
Key West this coming January.
Unique opportunity for
sailing gifts procurement: This is the result of a Leigh
Morgan brainstorm that has become a tradition. The day after
Thanksgiving, Friday, November 26, HYC offers a sailing goodie
sale - all sorts of sailing stuff and gear- during the morning
(breakfast through lunchtime) and again at Happy Hour. It's a fun
gathering and reduces holiday shopping stress. Proceeds go to support the
club's racing programs. For info call HYC at (757) 722-0711.
Sailing World magazine BOAT
OF THE YEAR overall winner is the 33' J/100, considered a
day-racer and day sailer. Other monohull category winners are Best
Raceboat, Seaquest 36 and for Best Cruiser/Racer, Beneteau First 44.7. The
Best Performance Boat was Nacra A2 singlehanded catamaran.
More on the frozen water bottles: There
has been great interest in the topic. (see SBRNYCU issue # 225,
Monday Nov 15, 2004) Several readers have referenced websites that
debunk the carcinogen probability as an untrue urban myth. Best
advice - search the web and other medical authorities and decide for
yourself.

MURPHY'S
LAW: I recently read that the expression DIRTY DOG is a
nautical term. The original nautical expression, "a dirty dog and no
sailor", was defined by Admiral William Smyth in 1867 in The
Sailor's Wordbook as "a mean, spiritless and utterly useless
rascal." I say to the good Admiral that THE Racing Beagle
takes umbrage with those scurrilous words. Racing sailors cannot be
defined as Dirty Dogs. Only once have I encountered a dirty racer and it
was under the beer truck at a post-race party. /S/
Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all. (ref:
