On a day like yesterday,
cold, clear, and crystal blue, if your boat was in the
water, ya had to go out! That was Jeff Rogers
on Halaha whom envious drivers on the
HRBT saw enjoying a day on the Bay!
Word is The Groundhog did
see his shadow last Wednesday! AKKKK. Don't throw away your
boat gear catalogs yet. There may still be a couple of snowbound days in
our futures.
The US Match Racing
Championship for the Prince of Wales Trophy (Area C qualifier regatta) -
Hampton Yacht Club has been selected (and has accepted) as
host of this prestigious event. Six three person crews will
match race J/24's May 20-21-22 in Hampton Roads, with
the top two teams advancing in the ladder event. J/24 Fleet 71 members, along with others,
will loan their boats for the competition. The owner/skipper of the loaned
boat will be aboard his or her boat with the competing team. Different
boats will be used as competitors move through the levels. At the Finals
in September in Newport beach, California, they will sail Governor Cup 21s.
Teams will be selected to compete by the national committee. Match
racing is great for on the water spectators who appreciate good
racing. There will be a lot of racing, high level skills, and in
an America's Cup format. Watch for more details as they become
available.
Tug on your club race captain's sleeve!

Quotes you wish were yours:
Helen Quinby says last year during the Annapolis to Solomons race the air went
so light they spent 2 hours looking at the finish line, but were unable to cross
it. Heard at the time on Paul West' boat: "Light air is
why I don't carry a gun on board."
US SAILING BASIC RACE MANAGEMENT COURSE -
Hosted by Rappahannock River Yacht Club (Irvington, VA) on
Saturday, February 26th. This course is particularly
helpful for race committee members who want to provide quality racing for
their club's events. The course meets the course requirement for US
SAILING Club Race Officer certification; the certification test
(optional) will be given at the end of the day for those participants
who wish to take it. Course instructor is John McCarthy; he will be
assisted by Blaine Liner. Cost is $15 and includes lunch and refreshments

MURPHY'S
LAW: Racing sailors are NOT groundhogs. Proof is the
number who were out and about (and not back in their holes) this past
weekend at the FBYC Bermuda High party that included the CBYRA Awards
dinner. Mr. P. Phil would do well to take a lesson. /S/
Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
