Monday February 14, 2005 09:34AM
onTODAY IS VALENTINES
DAY! If you have not already, call the florist and hope he or she
will have sympathy for a racer whose brain simply froze up due to lack of use
during the off season!
When the Rolex Trans
Atlantic Race starts May 21st from Sandy Hook, there will be at
least 2 southern Bay homies on board one of the entries. Pat
Patterson, owner/skipper of Orion and Jim
Rogers, owner/skipper of Firebrand , will be on
the Stad Amsterdam, the Netherlands sail training vessel. The race
finishes in Cowes and the goal is to beat the Schooner Atlantic's race
record. Pat says that as of now, there are about 20 entries.
Plans are for Gary Jobson and a film crew to be along
too. Now, there's a happening!
This coming Friday, racing
at the St. Pete NOOD begins (Feb 18-20). Southern Bay boats,
Mirage, Christian Schaumloffel's Hobie 33, will be
there in the 8 boat Hobie 33 fleet and Dennis Hannick's Tripp
26, Radio Flyer, will be on the line for his class. This will be
the Mirage gang's first action since winning first overall in the Fort
Lauderdale to Key West Race in January.
When you fill out your
CCV Racing Membership application, you have to provide
information regarding which PHRF fleet you plan to race in.
In case you missed it, here are the NEW for 2005 (spinnaker) FLEET
SPLITS for Region 4 South: PHRF A - Up to
115; PHRF B - 116 to 166; PHRF C - 167 and up.
Yankee Point Yacht
Club packed 50-some folks into their clubhouse at Merry Point to hear a
SBRNYCU Racing Rules Seminar presented by John McCarthy on
Saturday. YPYC members made the event an all day affair, many using
the clear, but cold afternoon (temps hovered in the high 20s) to check
out their boats before attending the evening pot-luck supper gathering.

MURPHY'S
LAW: Ever on the look out for racing dogs on the southern Bay, I
perked my ears at news of a newcomer up at Yankee Point (Corrotoman /
Rappahannock River area). I hear she is a lovely 1 year old
English Setter named, appropriately so, Merry of Merry Point. When
she gets off work from her boatyard and marina duties, she meanders down
to the Merry Point (cable) ferry and makes a roundtrip voyage just
for the fun of it. /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the
sailing spirit in us all.
