onDO NOT BE AN APRIL
FOOL - Get your PHRF 2005 certificate now!
Racing starts early in April. If you do not have your 2005 PHRF
certificate, you will not be able to do a sanctioned race. Once April
arrives, all the Johnny-Come-Latelies will slow down the system.
Send in your certificate application/renewal form today.
Last Reminder: On
Friday, March 25, Gary Jobson will speak at the University of
Richmond. His 7:00pm talk will be in the Moot Courtroom of
the T.C. Williams School of Law. If you have ever enjoyed one of Gary Jobson's
appearances, you know that his sailing topics know no boundaries. No
matter how many others attend, you will feel like he is a friend stopping by
your digs for a friendly chat about sailing. For tickets (
and price info) call the Leukemia Society in Richmond, (804) 627-0400, ext 15,
or (800) 766-0797.
Cock Island Race #18 (June 24-25) is alive
and kicking (a lot of people thought that #17 would be the last)
and organizers have named the music makers for the parties. The
Friday Night Rendezvous and Check-in will feature old friends to the
event Bill Deal's Original Rhondels, and on Saturday night
racers can enjoy Island Boy at the post race party and awards
presentation.
Update on TowneBank

Sailing Trivia
Question: How many books has Gary
Jobson written on sailing? The not so trivial answer:
14 !
Speaking of racers and
authors: Allan Heyward, who races La Maga in the
PHRF fleet, also has a Flying Scot named
mehitabel. mehitabel, of course is the famous
cat about whom archy, a cockroach, wrote (by hopping from key to key on the
typewriter) - archy and mehitabel by Don Marquis, copyright
1916.

Recently a spinnaker PHRF class racer reported that he
received top-notch support from PHRF of the Chesapeake. He submitted his
PHRF Certificate Renewal form and had the 2005 valid
certificate back in his hand 4 days later. The entire gyration was done
through the US Postal Service. Kudos to Stew
Buckler, Executive Secretary of PHRF.
MURPHY'S
LAW: I know of archy and of mehitabel.
And, as soon as Purina makes a small enough milkbone, I intend to use it to
punch out a novel on my ipod about my sailboat racing canine
friends! Your Murphster will not be upstaged by a cat and a
bug! /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us
all.
