onThere is a new sail loft on the main drag in
Deltaville. Jerry Latell, manager and owner of
the Ullman/Skelley loft in Irvington, has expanded his
operation to include a larger and more convenient location on Route 33 (the main
street through Deltaville - aka General Puller Highway) in Deltaville. The
Irvington Ullman/Skelley location will stay open as a canvas shop and as a pick
up and drop off point for Jerry's customers' convenience. For info
contact Jerry Latell at (804) 776-6151.

Mind your P's (not necessarily your Q's):
We are getting down to the nitty gritty. If you plan to race in
the PHRF class (most big boat southern Bay racing is PHRF), you must have your
2005 Valid PHRF Certificate. And, as stated in the "2005
Fleet Policies for PHRF of the Chesapeake", to be eligible to compete in PHRF
events sanctioned by CBYRA the valid certificate must show that the boat meets
the Category 4P minimum equipment and accommodation
standards. For info on obtaining a 2005 Valid PHRF Rating Certificate
check out the PHRF web site at www.phrfchesbay.com or call Executive
Secretary Stew Buckler at (410) 414-3270.
Southern Bay Racers High Profilin' in Regatta
Advertising: In the April issue of SpinSheet check
out the Southern Bay Race Week ad (page 42) to see 2004 Boat of the
Week Titillation and the 2005 Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge ad (page
24) to see Meridian, aka Scherherazade.
On to Charleston! Carey
Hardesty, a member of Mike Austin's Movin' On crew, reports
that he and mates from the Movin' On gang will be on Cash Flow
at Charleston Race Week. Good luck to the Green Machine from Elizabeth
City.
SCREWPILE 2005 cometh (July 17-19): The
2005 Screwpile Committee met in Solomons last week. Here's an update on
the regatta: There are already 56 boats entered. The NOR and the
Sailing Instructions, entry forms, accommodations information, and bushels of
other good info are posted already at the websites. Don't dally on
getting entered - there will be a 200 boat limit this year. Check out
the web at www.screwpile.net or www.splc.us
TLE - Time Limit Expired -
Keeps things moving along on multiple race days. Both
SCREWPILE and SOUTHERN BAY RACE WEEK will use the TLE option in
2005. CCV will use TLE on their High Point races too. Racers should be
aware that to be scored TLE (as opposed to DNF - Did Not Finish), you need to be
racing until the time limit DOES expire. If you drop the sails and turn on
the motor before the time limit expires, you are not scored TLE. Cuts down on
the wait between racing, keeps more boats in the chase for overall standings in
multiple race regattas, and gets ALL the racers back to the
dock in time for the post-race shenanigans. What's not to like?
(NOTE: Be sure to read the individual regatta SI - there are many TLE
options.)
Rappahannock River Yacht Club announces
a Crew Listing Party, Friday, April 15, 1730 hours, for PHRF

Latell at (804) 438-9011 for info.

6th. Open to all. Race organizers require that participants
submit a standard CBYRA entry form and crew registration form to HYC for the
series or a race. For info call HYC at (757) 722-0711
CCV and Hampton Yacht Club co-sponsored a Race
Management Workshop Saturday. 25+ race committee folk
attended the 4 hour session presented by John McCarthy, Dave
Hamilton, and Dick Boykin. Each participant
received the CCV Race Management Manual, which is edited and assembled
each year by Glenn Giles.
MURPHY'S
LAW: Here's a sure sign of Spring for
a racing beagle: Like all sailboat racers, I have shed my socks
and my winter coat. I leave a trail of warm fuzz
and grins wherever I go - especially when headed for the race
course! /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the
sailing spirit in us all.
