Wales Cup. Marie Klok Crump, who has been an
active match racer on the international circuit since 1994, is a member of
Fishing Bay YC along with her husband Will Crump, who is well
know on the Bay and beyond, particularly in J/24 circles. Marie and Will
will be racing as a team in the regatta along with Thomas
Klok.

Evidently, the huge ketch visiting Norfolk,
Felicita West, caught a lot of SBRNYCU
readers' attention. Every reader response mentioned the UNOFFICIAL
weekly charter rate of around $190,000. Dock rumor has it that is
the base rate; you have to add on fuel costs and a few other incidentals, like
food and drink packages. So, what?! Scrimp a little on your racing
budget and set yourself up a nice cruise in the Med this summer!
Here comes the first of the 2005 Chesapeake Bay Distance
Racing Series (presented by Broad Bay Sailing Association) - The annual
Cape Henry Cup - sanctioned CBYRA event, Saturday, May
21 - entry deadline is 1700 hours, Friday, May 20. Weather
permitting, the start is near the range marks off Buckroe Beach area and the
race may go outside the CBBT complex or to Back River, or... there are 6
course options. The NOR is published in the 2005 CCV Racing Guide
(page 63). Contact: Scott Almond at (757) 471-2663 The
following Tuesday night, May 24th, BBSA presents the race awards at one of
their trademark pot luck dinners at ODU's Sailing Center.
Price reduced! Proven racer! Ready to pick up
and go racing (almost)! Southern Bay racers remember
Cheyenne, the giant catamaran that spent considerable time in
Hampton Roads waiting to make her run at the world speed record. Well,
according to Scuttlebutt 1830, she dismasted in March, 2005, and now
sits at Belgrano Naval Base, Argentina. She is marked down from her 2004
price of $3.4 million to a mere $650,000. Such a deal!
Neal Garrett, organizer of the CCV "Learn
to Crew on a Racing Sailboat Course", was up to his elbows in participants
on opening day this past Tuesday-Wednesday. There are
31 interested, anxious, and eager new crewbies involved.
Neal said, one, who has a broken leg, even though he cannot go on the water for
the Wednesday night racing sessions, is attending the classroom Tuesdays, so he
can be learning while his leg is mending.
Joe Urban, Yankee Point YC race
chairman, reports that YPYC got in two races for the YPYC Spring
Regatta. In the combined spinnaker fleet, the finish order at the
top was the same in both races: 1. Aerwana, W.
McCarty; 2. The Red Dragon, Jerry Latell; 3.
Stephanie, Anker Madsen. In the non-spin fleet,
winners for the day were: 1. Seadog (1-1), Doug
Anderson; 2. Silver Hokie (3-2), Taz Whitley;
3. Therapee (2-3), Dale Moser.
Jerry and Andrea Latell purchased their new
boat, a Santana 20, The Red Dragon, over the web. They spent
their Easter weekend driving roundtrip to Tampa to pick TRD up and
bring her home. Now she is hot into the racing circuit and "breathing
fire" on the competition.
In addition to your racing shoes, be sure to pack your
dancin' feet for 2005 Southern Bay Race Week! The
Friday night band, Unlimited Access, will be there
for racers who boogie, and Saturday will bring on the BIG band (9 members)
TBB. DJ Rob Graham will spin the tunes at the Thursday night
skippers meeting / registration gathering and for the Sunday awards
presentation. Register for SBRW (June 3-5) now. Info: www.hamptonyc.com and click on the
SBRW logo. Now, go on and get your entry forms and fees in - June 3-4-5 is
just around the corner!!!
More indications that there are, indeed, people out there who
want to crew on racing sailboats: Rappahannock River / Yankee Point
yacht clubs had 60-some folks turn out for their crew listing
party in late April. up on the Rivah.
A circus of sailboats! The annual Trapeze
Regatta (hosted by Hampton YC - this coming Saturday and Sunday, May
14-15) will include Hampton One Designs (Saturday only)
and 505s. Contact: Tyler and Jane Moore at (757)
726-2130.
Let's see, does it go "...handsome young man on the
flying trapeze, who flies through the air with the greatest of
ease..."? Keep in mind, in racing sailboats with trapezes, there is
another term: Tea Bag: as in to tea bag
one's crew, or as in I was tea bagged, or as in if you tea bag
me again, you can get someone else to go out on that wire!
Don't be a "come lately"! To play at
Southern Bay Race Week, you must enter.
NOTE: CCV Racing Members must submit a SBRW entry form and fees
too! In other words, SBRW is NOT included in your CCV "whatadeal" special
Racing Membership.
MURPHY'S LAW: Being a racing beagle, I
watched with keen interest the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. I'm, of course,
going for a Triple Crown too - race - party - siesta. /S/ Murphy
the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
