REGATTA: Voodoo Chile, Insatiable,
The Red Dragon, and Jaguar
tops in PHRF fleets. 60 entries supported the Fishing Bay YC
/ Stingray Point Marina sponsored Leukemia Cup Regatta Saturday. Most
fleets got in two races. At the same time in adjacent waters, the schooner
Virginia paid a call and did plenty of tour business while the
kids did the Bay Open and the Junior Olympics. Sailing chaos of the best

Silence IS golden!: The Silent Auction
alone at the Leukemia Cup raised more than $40,000. Regatta officials say
that even though the final count is not complete yet, the funds raised by the
event will exceed easily the 2004 $170,000.

As of this morning, 169 boats from 42 different clubs and sailing associations
have completed their entries. Preliminary fleet splits show 8 PHRF
spinnaker fleets ( ratings from -3 to 213 ) and one PHRF non-spinnaker fleet (
ratings from 48 to 186) along with one-design classes for J-29, J-105, J-35, and
Catalina 27.

BATTLE OF THE CHESAPEAKE TROPHY
CONTENDERS: Nine yacht clubs are contesting the BATTLE OF THE
CHESAPEAKE championship while racing at SCREWPILE 2005. Fishing Bay Yacht
Club and Hampton Yacht Club will carry southern Bay colors.
Annapolis Yacht Club, Baltimore City Yacht Association, Eastport Yacht Club, the
Naval Academy Sailing Squadron, Southern Maryland Sailing Association, Tred Avon
Yacht Club and West River Sailing Club complete the field.
Southern Bay homie John McCarthy will be
Chief Judge at Screwpile 2005, filling in for Dan Trammell, who
will be on the Transpac Race.
If you cannot go to SCREWPILE 2005, but you can go sailing in
Hampton Roads Saturday, July 16th, you may want to try the Little
Bay Challenge. The price is right - FREE if you get your entry in
no later than 1700 hours Friday, July 15th. Race day entries cost a $10.
late fee. This is not a sanctioned race. All fleets race
non-spinnaker, single headsail. There is a mandatory skippers
meeting at 1130 hours at Willoughby Harbor Marina (Norfolk on the tip end of
Willoughby Spit) on race day. For additional info contact Scott

Captain Nicholas Alley takes over the
schooner Virginia tomorrow. Virginia has returned from
Fishing Bay to her yard in Norfolk for a few days this
week.
Remember, the 2005 Cape Charles Cup
is a two day event set for Saturday, July 23 (race from Little Creek to
Cape Charles) and Sunday, July 24 (race from Cape Charles back to Little
Creek). This is a sanctioned CBYRA event. Entry deadline is
Wednesday, July 20th. For information, please contact Bill Barnes at (757)

event.
MURPHY'S LAW: They're
coming from the North; they're coming from the South; they're all shapes and
sizes. And, when all is said and done at Screwpile, there will be a TOP
DOG on the Bay for 2005. Now, that's a meaningful title!
