on64 One Design-ers were at the 66th Fishing Bay
YC Annual Regatta this past weekend. Here's how things shook
out among the classes: Class Winners: FLYING SCOT (17 boats) -
Frank and Debbie Gibson; FRONT RUNNER (8 boats) - Bill
Spencer/Kenney Cobb; HOD (8 boats) - Latane and Pat Montague;
MOBJACKS (7 boats) - Jim Rice and Pete Wallio; 420 (7 boats)
- Alex O'Toole; ALBACORE (9 boats) - Jude Brown; LASER (15
boats) - Brad Squires. There were 9 Optimists on the scene too and
Alex Jacob took first among the Optis.
Saturday (Sept 3) thru Sunday (Sept
4) Event at Fishing Bay (Deltaville): Fishing Bay Yacht Club is
hosting the 10th Annual Stingray Point Regatta. This is a
favorite weekend event for southern Bay racers that concludes on Sunday, leaving
the holiday Monday open for return boat deliveries, etc. CBYRA
sanctioned racing for all PHRF fleets and MORC. Racing is in the Bay at
the mouth of the Piankatank River. Plenty of socializing, eating and

MERIDIAN, MOVIN' ON, QUICKY,
and VIRGINIA H chalked up important wins in the
CCV and the CBYRA High Point competition: The CCV FOUNDERS Race
came off yesterday in the mouth of the Chesapeake in scorching
temperatures and light wind, both of which are par for the course lately.
Nevertheless, racers sweated it out, and all but two of the 31 starters finished

Moon - Southern Bay Night Time Racing
Friday, August 19th, 1900
(7 PM) is the warning signal for the first class start for the annual
PLANTATION LIGHT RACE, sponsored by Hampton Yacht Club. This is a
CBYRA sanctioned event. There are starts for all PHRF
classes. The starting line will be in Hampton Roads Harbor at CCV harbor
mark "H". Entry forms and fees are due by 1700 hours, Thursday, August

Saturday, August
20th, 1400 (2 PM) is the warning signal for the first class
start for the annual SMITH POINT RACE, sponsored by Fishing Bay Yacht
Club. This is a CBYRA sanctioned event. There are starts for PHRF
spinnaker and PHRF Non-Spinnaker fleets as well as MORC. The starting line
will be at the mouth of the Piankatank River, in the vicinity of FBYC club mark

A Landmark Passes - One of the 2 boats
that did not finish yesterday's CCV Founders' Race, Leo Wardrup's Black
Widow, dropped out not because of gear failure
or crew breakdown, but because they had tickets (they
said) to attend the Jimmy Buffet appearance at the
official closing of one of the area's oldest, best know watering holes, the
Duck Inn. The entrance to Lynnhaven Inlet will not be
anything like it used to be... too bad.
Mad dogs and Englishmen ... and old Farts go out in
the midday sun! Five boats full of beloved "Old Farts" turned out
Saturday for the annual Tom Brady Masters Race. Three boats
finished the 4 mile race sailed under JAM (jib and main) only
limitations. The annual event is sponsored by Hampton YC and always
includes a lively post-race social opportunity! Ben
Weeks' Rumble finished 1st, Phil Brigg's
Feather 2nd, and Louie Lewis' Incentive
3rd. Everyone on board had to be at least 55 and each boat had to be at
least 10 years old. Race chairman was Malcolm Brady.
York River Yacht Club won the Admiral's Cup
Saturday, and racers at the event actually got to experience a strong sea breeze
that appeared in time for an exciting finish. RESULTS:

Blotter, Cutting Edge, Sabre 28. This is the event that embodies
the friendly competition between York River YC and Seaford YC for braggin'
rights on the York River.

Mark your calendar: This year's EXECUTIVE CUP
RACE, scheduled for September 10, 2005, has been cancelled by event
organizers.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND SOUTHERN BAY RACING

Saturday (Sept 3) Event in Hampton
Roads: Norfolk Yacht & Country Club is hosting the Annual
Labor Day Regatta for "big boats" and folding into the race the
competition for the Dink Vail Perpetual Trophy. This is a CBYRA sanctioned event. Racing takes place in the
Harbor. First warning signal is set for 1100 hours. There are starts
for all PHRF classes as well as a Cruising class. There will be a post
race keg tapping - cash bar at 1700 hours followed by a barbeque
style dinner and awards presentation. For info contact event

Saturday (Sept 3) thru Monday (Sept 5) Event in
Annapolis: CBYRA hosts the 39th Annual Annapolis Race
Week. This is heavy duty racing for the entire weekend.
All CBYRA sanctioned (of course) races, for all PHRF and several one-design
classes. Racing is just off Annapolis. Major parties, festivities,

and fees by this coming Saturday, August 20th.
Greg Thomas and Jacques Bernier from San Diego won the
2005 Formula 18 [catamaran] North Americans with a string of
1-1-1-1-1-4-10-2-1-1. Thirty-eight top notch teams sailed all week to
decide the championship. So, from Buckroe Beach to Austria to represent the
US Multihull Team in the 2006 ISAF World Games. Special
kudos to southern Bay
homies: Tracie Van Houten, who honcho-ed the entire event,
and Dennis Hawks with whom Tracie sailed and to Dan
Winters, Tyler Moore, and John
McCarthy, who served on the regatta protest committee.
