#270 SOUTHERN BAY RACING NEWS YOU CAN USE
Monday October 17, 2005 11:45AM
onThey raced 17 miles in 15-25 knots from the
Northwest in the Fishing Bay Yacht Club Fall Series Medium Distance
Race on Saturday. And, the tough sail handling continued
after the boats got back to the piers on Jackson Creek. Stiff NW
breezes, being what they are, made folding and stowing spinnakers a
challenge even on land. FLEET WINNERS: PHRF
A: Leroi Lissenden, Voodoo Chile.
PHRF B: Mike Dale, Juggernaut. PHRF
C: Brad Miller, Schehellion. PHRF
Non-Spin: Barfield, Smith,
Checko. Meanwhile the J/24 fleet did 4 short
windward-leeward races and Mark Wensell's Mojo
took top honors. PRO: Tom Roberts.
Imagine! Sets Records and Wins 2005
GCBSR. Mike Bagley's Imagine!, a 76 foot gaff-rigged
schooner, built in Albany, New York, and home ported in Annapolis, beat all
comers down the Bay, crossing the finish line in 12 hours 57 minutes and 51
seconds. In so doing, she set a record for quickest trip ever in the
Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race and her corrected time (7:48:05) was a record
as well. Imagine ! won her class (Class A) by the largest margin
and, therefore, won the overall trophy. Our southern Bay beauty,
Virginia, finished second in her class (Class AA); she took 14
hours, 15 minutes, and 11 seconds to come the distance. Here are the
winners by class: AA: Liberty Clipper (Boston, MA),
Greg Muzzy; A: Imagine!
(Annapolis), Mike Bagley; B: Adventurer 65
(Norwalk, CT), Mark Faulstick; C: Resolute
(Annapolis), John Slade. Virginia Race Chairman - Larry
Bryant; Maryland Race Chairman - Nan Nawrocki. Scoring - Bill
Mellen.

HRBT. This is a staggered start race; get your entry in NOW,

splits. PHRF fleets as well as a Cruising class. Lay in your PRPP
(pre-race prep party) goodies, find that harbor chart and the October

arrived yesterday by truck from Long Island. Marty is looking forward to
some casual racing and sailing in Hampton Roads.
While Leroi Lissenden's Voodoo
Chile was winning PHRF A in the FBYC medium distance race Saturday,
some indoctrination to the joys of sailboat racing was going on too. James
Madison University freshman, Emily Lang, was on board for her
first big boat racing experience. Emily hails from Norfolk, is a Maury
High School graduate, and was part of a group of JMU Sailing Club
students who came to the regatta to "fill in" on shorthanded crews.

REPORT THOSE RACE RESULTS: Make sure
whoever is responsible in your club for sending racing results of
CBYRA sanctioned events to the appropriate official scorer for the southern Bay
region has done so. For "big boats", i.e. PHRF and MORC, that's
Dick Boykin (757) 890-0093. One Design and Cruising
One Design results usually go through their classes - you know who that
is. This is essential for the CBYRA people who are working very hard to
finalize the standings and get the CBYRA High Point Awards to the deserving
racers. Don't let any of your clubs' racers lose out - get the results in
!

MURPHY'S LAW: Here's

Truly has found 3, but is still searching for one missing sequined, high heel
