onHelp find AMBERJACK -
Amberjack, Star #307, was built in 1925 by Davis &
Sons of Solomons Island. The first owners were listed as Trippe and Young
(don't have first names). Ownership transferred in the 1930s to Richard
Martin and then to A.R. Leighton in the early 1950s. AMBERJACK
kept her name and stayed in the Chesapeake Bay fleet until she was last logged
by the Star historian around 1983. Now, a search is on for her.
If you have any information, Fitzhugh Turner asks that you contact him

From Jimmie Mock, The Arbiter of Time,
official count down to the official beginning of the southern Bay 2006
season: 54 days 'til April 1st. J/24 Fleet 71 will open the
season on opening day with their 2006 Spring Regatta.
Spotted in a Southside (Norfolk) boatyard
this past weekend: Bert Johnson, (Rocket J,
J/24), working on a new project. Bert has bought an old, "very old,"
PT 30. He said, "Look at this - I paid $1 for her - some say I paid too
much!" Also spotted - Cyrano, Bob
Mosby's Frers 36, and Butch
Patterson's Capri 25, Small Potato.
MOTH-ers in Florida: Southern Bay
Classic Moth racers did great in St. Petersburg, Florida at the Classic
Moth Mid-Winters. Mark Saunders finished 2nd and
Joe Bousquet took 3rd. The winner of the regatta
was Jeff Linton (Tampa). Jeff, who finished 1st in the
2004 Etchells World Championship and was 2004 Classic Moth Mid-Winters as well
as North American Champion, was nominated for Rolex Yachtsman of the Year for
2005.

Mark your calendar - April 4, Tuesday
evening, - Annual CCV Racing Rules Clinic and 2006
CCV Racing Guide distribution. The clinic topic will be
the 2006 General Sailing Instruction (in the CCV Guide) from the
racers' perspective. The presentation also will be especially helpful
to race committee members in southern Bay clubs, since most use all or part of
the CCV GSI for their events. The clinic will be held at The
Mariners' Museum, Newport News, Virginia. It is FREE and OPEN TO
ALL. Sailing shoes, no socks, is not only acceptable attire, but expected!
Stay tuned for time details.
Stan Erwin and Nathan McCullough
won 1st and 2nd place respectively in the 2006 SOUTHERN BAY
RACE WEEK T-Shirt Design Contest (Gosling's Black Seal Logo
Category). Now is the time hit them up for a small loan and to view
their cool, new Gosling's Gear! T-shirts sporting their designs
will be available at SBRW, June 2-4.
MURPHY'S LAW: The
Murphster thinks that if you have a deep seeded problem with abiding by the
racing rules, there is another solution - invest in voice projection
therapy! Sail straight for the mark,
barking as loudly as you can, throw the helm over, and
hoist yourself on the petard of the "Law of Gross Tonnage." Remember
though, lots of marks (as well as competitors) have more gross tonnage
than you. It will not work to yell at Middle Ground or Wolf Trap
Lighthouses. /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the
sailing spirit in us all.
