# 292 SOUTHERN BAY RACING NEWS YOU CAN USE
Monday April 3, 2006 05:33PM
onCBYRA Region 4 JAVARAMA - April
8, Saturday, 0900-1200, at Fishing Bay Yacht Club. There is no
cost for the clinic. CBRYA vice-pres for Region 4, Tom Roberts,
says JAVARAMA is open to all Region 4 clubs that want
to learn about and/or to use JAVASCORE to score races. Interested
participants may bring a laptop computer. Wireless internet access is
available to anyone so equipped. If you intend to bring a regular
computer, you should bring an insulating power strip and arrive early so you can
get set up. Tom plans to make this a hands-on
experience where participants learn to use, really use, JAVASCORE, from
registering boats and skippers all the way to entering scores and uploading
results to CBYRA and/or other web sites. Contact Tom at (804)
843-2682.
TOMORROW EVENING: 2006 CCV RACING
CLINIC and Racing Guide Distribution: April 4, Tuesday, 6:30
pm, at The Mariners' Museum (Newport News, Virginia). OPEN TO ALL and
FREE. Pull off your socks and bring your Racing Rule
Book (there will be limited supply of the RRS available
for purchase at the Clinic.) Southern Bay racers, skippers, crews, friends,
family, and curious sailors will enjoy this. John McCarthy, PRO for
the CCV season long, 15 race High Point Series, will hit the key points of the
2006 Sailing Instruction from the racers'
perspective . The Sailing Instructions, which CCV as well as
most southern Bay clubs use as the basis for their racing events, are
contained in the 2006 CCV Racing Guide, a must have publication that is
included with every CCV Membership and will be distributed at this
event.
For Tuesday evening - Directions:
Traveling in either direction on I-64, take EXIT 258A (Rt 17 South / J.
Clyde Morris Blvd) - On J. CLYDE MORRIS / RT 17 SOUTH you will
eventually pass Riverside Hospital on the left -
continue straight ahead through the intersection of Warwick
Boulevard and watch for The Mariners' Museum sign that indicates a left
turn to the Museum grounds. When you get to the Museum building,
bear right to the parking area and follow your instincts and your fellow racers
( civilized folks wearing boat shoes) to the CCV gathering.
More Southern Bay Race Week Early Bird
Entries: The fleet continues to build: From Elizabeth
City, NC, comes Chuck Monsees and the Rockette (J/29)
crew, and John Ritter's Temeraire (Santana 20), the
earliest PHRF C fleet boat entered.
Yesterday, April 2nd, the Volvo Ocean
Race racers began Leg 5 from Rio de Janerio to Baltimore. They
are expected to finish this leg sometime between April 17th and 19th. You
can track the fleet at www.volvooceanrace.com
Unless something unusual happens, and no UFO's with really, really, big
transporter equipment have been spotted in the area recently, the boats
will have to pass between the Virginia Capes prior to reaching
Baltimore! Stay tuned - SBRNYCU will share any special
info received relating to actual passage time via ZAP FLASH.

Mother Nature messed with the
April Fools on April Fools Day (Saturday), blowing and gusting in the low 20+
knots in Hampton Roads harbor. She relented yesterday and lots of sails
dotted the water. Among them were 3 J/24s engaged in some
friendly competition. The group completed 4 very close races with
Mike Veraldi (Quicky) declared the winner for the
day.
Hey, Sleepyheads! -
remember, Daylight Time (DLT) is now in effect! And, next year
(2007) it will begin in mid-March. Jay Wright (Aria)
calculates 3 additional weeks of more daylight hours next

MURPHY'S LAW:
Additional daylight hours always seemed a good idea to me - more time for all
the good stuff like sailing, eating, socializing, etc. Now, if we can get
someone somewhere to also advance the warmer temperatures.... As far as
sleeping with all this new-found daylight - no problem: I have these eye
lid things that once lowered, make it dark no matter the time of
day! Zzzzzzzzzzz! /S/
Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
