onFBYC Opening Day and Spring Series
1: Up on the "Rivah", at the mouth of the Rappahannock, that is,
Fishing Bay Yacht Club will run their Opening Day regatta on Saturday, April 22
and the first race of their Spring Series on Sunday, April 23. For Info
contact: Brooks Zerkel.
CCV SPRING SERIES OPENS SUNDAY: CCV
Spring Series Races #1 and #2 are set for this coming Sunday, April
23. They also mark the beginning of the 15 races, season long,
CCV High Point Championship Series. The Warning flag for race
#1 is scheduled for 1000. Both races will be in Hampton Roads
Harbor. There are starts for all PHRF classes. Deadline for
entries is 1300 hours on Saturday, April 22. Awards presentation
social follows the racing - FREE hotdogs, soda, and beer at the HYC flag
deck. Racers who took a CCV RACING Membership do not have to submit
any additional forms or fees - all others must submit standard entry forms with
fee (for the day, $20 for USSA members / $22 for Non-USSA members). For
info contact: John McCarthy at (757) 850-4225.
The Volvos are coming!
Southern Bay racer Christian Schaumloffel (Mirage,
Hobie 33) has devised a way to estimate their arrival time (at the Virginia
Capes and further up the Bay) and has Volvo and NOAA sites he recommends
using for your calculations - you can check out the info with Christian by
calling him at (757) 496-3590. Christian estimates that
the first two boats will have passed through The Capes close to the
wee hours this morning, with others hot on their heels later today and
early Tuesday morning. If there is any breeze, you better have a really
hot sport fisher to keep up with these babies!

2006 SBRW: Ya'll come! 6 great
races and 3 great parties!
The sailing / racing bug has bitten Keith
Carson and Marci Brown but good! The dynamic duo already have
Pearl (Morgan 24) which they will be racing in the PHRF fleet in 2006.
Now, they have doubled the size of their fleet by purchasing Checks in
the Mail (from Jim and Barbara Williams), which will be essentially
their cruising craft. Godspeed!
CCV's "Learn to Crew on a Racing
Sailboat" course (classroom and on-the-water, Tuesday and Wednesday
evenings) begins Tuesday, May 2 and runs for 4 consecutive Tuesday /
Wednesdays. For info contact David Taylor at (757) 344-5292. Do
it now, though, since the class is filling fast.
Who's NOOD-ing ? The Annapolis NOOD
Regatta (National Offshore One Design) entry list is long. Racing
begins Friday, April 28 and goes through Sunday, April 30. From the
southern Bay, Martin Casey and the Bow
Movement team will be racing in the Catalina 27 Division, and
Dave Taylor and the Midmorning Buzz gang in the J/24
Division and could be a local J22 going - waiting to confirm.
If you didn't make the SpinSheet Crew Listing Party -
South, at Marker 20 (downtown Hampton) this past Saturday, you can still make
the original version of the event this coming Saturday (April 22), but
you'll have to drive to Annapolis. SpinSheet's 2006 Crew
Listings Party information along with info on how to list through the
web can be found at www.spinsheet.com.
It's reported that there were so many SBRW
last minute Early Bird Entries mailed to
event chairman Leigh Morgan that her mailbox fell off the house while she
was out-of-town for 2 days! YIKES! (The mailbox is
back up now - get your entries in - this is going to be something!)
Kudos to James Madison University student
Peter Anoia, who crews with the JMU Sailing Club, and is
involved with Kent Glover in starting up a Sea Scout Ship (909)
in Virginia Beach.

MURPHY'S LAW: Yours Truly,
the Murphster, was targeted by a gang of neighborhood squirrels who took a
bucket of jelly beans that Somebunny had left for me yesterday morning.
Life on the wild side in the fast lane is not easy.
/S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us
all.
