SEA STAR Wins Tie-Breaker for CCV
Spring Series PHRF A Championship: Dave and Bumps Eberwine's Sea
Star started out the Spring Series slowly, but finished with a
slam dunk yesterday (5-3-2-5-1-1) taking two first places. Race 5 of
the Series was sailed in fluky light air, but Race 6 went off in a late
afternoon 17-20 knots southwesterly. Sea Star won both
races and forced a tie with Sanford Richardson's
Kahuna, thereby winning the tie-breaker by virtue of the two 1st
place finishes. In the other three PHRF fleets the winners won
the Series convincingly. Series trophies will be presented at the annual
CCV Awards Presentation Party (November). SERIES RESULTS: PHRF A

The wind shrieked and howled, but it did not stop 36 boats
from setting out on a more than 20 mile course at the mouth of the Chesapeake

throughout the race, there were plenty of reports of broken equipment and tough

Welcome to Jackson Latell! Jerry and
Andrea Latell are the proud parents of newly arrived (April 18) Baby
Boy Jackson. Jerry and Andrea are key players in the racing program at
Rappahannock River YC and honchos of Ullman Sails Virginia. Jerry
said that Jackson already has joined Mom and Dad on the boat and looks forward
to his first actual sail as soon as the weather permits.
Dana Dillon, Amarylyn (Catalina 30),
who along with a crew of friends-racers, did the Cape Henry Cup, and broke yet
another spinnaker pole - it bent at a 90 degree angle. When they hit the
dock, they announced that Dana has declared he will henceforth buy spinnaker
poles by the discount dozen pack.
Weekend before this past , 9 5o5s did 8
races over two days at the HYC Trapeze Regatta. Tyler
Moore along with crew Jesse Falsone crushed the other
8 teams with a string of 1-2-3 (4) -1-1-1-1. There were sailors on the
teams from Australia, England, California, Florida, Virginia, and
Maryland.
MURPHY'S LAW: I will neither
confirm nor deny that Yours Truly, Murphy The Racing Beagle, was
spotted and photographed while in the Bahamas. It is true that there
was a picture of a "senior" beagle wearing a grass skirt and a tiara in a
recent edition of Latitudes & Attitudes
Magazine. I say those darned picture
phones should be outlawed. Remember, what happens at Southern Bay Race
Week, stays at Southern Bay Race
Week! /S/
Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
