GOVERNOR'S CUP: Lars Rathjen
and crew Jude Brown won the Albacore class of 14 boats and
the 2006 Governor's Cup. The Albacores were the largest class
(14) in the 60 boat fleet. Rathjen/Brown won by 3 points with finishes
of 2-3-1-2-3-2. Hampton One Designs were the second largest
class with 11. The father-son team of Randy (the dad) and Sam
(the kid) Stokes won the HOD class with finishes of
1-1-1-1-5-2. CLASS WINNERS: Albacore - Lars

FBYC 67th ANNUAL ONE-DESIGN REGATTA:
Saturday-Sunday, August 12-13, at Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Classes
are 420, Albacore, Hampton One Design, Flying Scot, Front Runner, Laser, Laser
Radial, Mobjack and Optimist. Registration is Friday, August 11.

a must do regatta for small boat racers. The location so close to the site
of this past weekend's Governor's Cup makes each of the two events a
special summer happening.
HOSPICE REGATTA XII: MIKE VERALDI and his
crew on Quicky (J24) won the right to represent Hampton Roads
in the next Hospice Regattas National Championship in
Annapolis, Spring 2007. On one of those
too-good-to-be-true days on the Bay, the 2006 Hospice fleet sailed
windward-leeward courses in the harbor. RESULTS: PHRF A -

Giles Proceeds from the Hospice Regatta are
donated to support of Hampton Roads area hospices. Hampton Yacht Club
sponsors the race.
CCV 2006 FOUNDERS RACE - Sunday, August 13,
2006. Expect a longer distance (if there's good wind) drop mark course
in the sailing venue off Ocean View (Willoughby Spit)
in the Bay. This is the same
location as the Southern Bay Race Week Venue #1 racing. The race
counts both for CBYRA high point and for the CCV High Point
Championships. OPEN TO ALL. Traditional CCV awards
presentation and post-race social - free hotdogs, beer, and sodas.
First warning is at 1100. Those who have a CCV Racing
Membership are automatically entered and fees paid. All others, CCV
Club members and non-CCV members, must submit a standard entry form and
appropriate fees. Entries are due Saturday, August 12. For info

LITTLE CREEK REGATTA: Veraldi and
Quicky crew claim Dick Schrader Cup as best in PHRF Fleet. Mike
Veraldi, led his J24 team to first place overall in the non-sanctioned
Little Creek Cup Regatta. The event is part of an extended fund raising
drive to support the St Judes Children's Research Hospital. Sailboats
gathered with power boats (for the poker run) and fishing tournament
participants. Everything was centered at Norfolk's Little Creek. The
sailing part of the regatta was sponsored by Broad Bay Sailing
Association. RESULTS: PHRF Spinnaker Fleet:

LABOR DAY DINK VAIL REGATTA
- One race day on Saturday, September
2. CBYRA sanctioned race for PHRF classes as well as a non-sanctioned
Cruising class. Entry deadline is 1200, Monday, August 28.

12TH ANNUAL STINGRAY POINT REGATTA -
Two days of CBYRA sanctioned racing for PHRF, MORC, and, if sufficient
interest, one-design. Saturday and Sunday, September 2 & 3.

CBYRA ANNAPOLIS RACE WEEK - Three days of
racing on Saturday-Sunday-Monday, September 2-3-4. CBYRA sanctioned
racing for PHRF and one-design classes. Entries are due no later than

Major commitments: Anna Cobb and Ben
Matchett married last Friday, August 4th. Anna
met her racing commitment, too - she sailed on Saturday and Sunday in the
Governor's Cup. Anna Matchett and skipper Mark Wheeler finished 3rd in the
HOD class. Congratulations and best wishes to Anna
and Ben!
Well known former US SAILING Team 470 sailor, Steve
Hunt (a Hampton Roads homie currently making his way in San Diego), was
spotted in his old sailing haunts this past weekend. Steve is currently
part of the crew on the Farr 40 Temptress, sailing out of
Los Angeles, and expects to be sailing in the Farr Worlds coming up soon in
Newport.

True Grit: Anna Tunnicliff, former ODU
star, looked out of the running after a disastrous Thursday at the Women's Laser
Worlds, but turned in two 3rd places on Friday, the last day of the
regatta, to claim 4th overall. Anna's string:
2-1-3-7-7-(8)-23-5-(32)-9-3-3.

MARCH 11, 2007. Spring ahead, yada yada...
Something different: Broad Bay Sailing
Association is offering all racers a chance to see first hand the development
that is taking place at Cape Charles (City) on the Eastern Shore. BBSA is
running the 2006 CAPE CHARLES CUP (August 26-27) as a two day,
two CBYRA sanctioned races event. Race to Cape Charles on Saturday - rest,
party, and enjoy the new Bay Creek Marina - and, race back on Sunday.
Sunday's finish line will be in the vicinity of Ft. Monroe / Thimble Shoal

Saturday, August 12 - ADMIRAL'S CUP REGATTA -
York River Yacht Club and Seaford Yacht Club combine forces for this
CBYRA sanctioned regatta. Racing for PHRF spinnaker and non-spinnaker
fleets as well as a non-sanctioned Cruising class. Organizers would much
appreciate your entry prior to Wednesday August 9, but they will accept
entries up until 1100 at the Seaford YC dock on race day. For info

Saturday, August 12 - TOM BRADY MASTER'S RACE
- a race reserved for well preserved racers. Everyone on the boat must be
at least 55 years young, and the boat itself must be at least 10 years
old. This is a non-sanctioned event, open to all who meet the gray panther
age requirement, and includes a post-race social. For info contact Malcolm

CBYRA sanctioned race for all PHRF classes and one of the 15 CCV races counted

LAW: The Murphster Party Hearty and Race
Hot Award has to go to Mike Veraldi and his crew on
Quicky. The J/24 hot-shots won the Little Creek
Cup Saturday in Norfolk, did the post-race party, and sailed to Hampton
and won the Hampton Roads Hospice Cup on Sunday! Awesome!
