FROSTBITE #1 Gets Blown Off! Gusts of more than 30
knots brought a halt to the attempt to start the first race of the Frostbite
Series. The series runs for 5 consecutive Sundays in Hampton Roads Harbor.
Sponsored by Hampton Yacht Club. For info contact PRO Dick Boykin at

When and If belonged to
General George S. Patton; he had the 63 foot Alden schooner
built in Wiscasset, Maine, in 1939. He is quoted as having said,
"When the next war is over, and if I live through it, Bea and
I are going to sail her around the world." But, General Patton died in an
automobile accident in Europe shortly after World War II ended. The
National Sailing Hall of Fame is hosting When and If in Annapolis until
November 2. For info check out http://www.nationalsailinghalloffame.org
CCV AWARDS PARTY AND YEAR END BASH, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER
10th at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Hampton. Cocktail Party
starts at 7 pm. Heavy hors d'oeuvres (heavy enough for any self-respecting
racer to make a meal), free wine and beer as long as it lasts (get there early),
and cash bar. Live music - THE PHUN DOCTORS. Put the taps on your
boat shoes and go dancin'! If you have not yet made your ressies, call

Caribbean 1500 Comes to Town: The
annual gathering of bluewater racing cruisers and cruising racers is forming up
at Bluewater Yachting Center in Hampton on Sunset Creek. The formal
welcoming is Thursday, November 2, and the start of the race/passage is set for
Monday, November 6, 1100 (weather permitting). This is a great event run
by the Cruising Rally Association, which is run by our very own Steve
Black, who makes his home on the southern Bay (Hampton). This is
the 17th annual Caribbean 1500.
Gremlyn, Greg and Lynda Cutter's
Elliott, is taking a road trip. They are trailer-ing to Lake Lanier,
Georgia, for the Elliott North Americans - racing Saturday and Sunday, November
4-5. Good luck to the Gremmies.
When your reefing line breaks first thing, as one
of yesterday's Frostbiter's did, the message is, "Turn her around, and head
on in - now!"
