This Weekend! CAPE CHARLES CUP - August
18 and 19. Entries will be accepted up until
cutoff time, Wednesday, day after tomorrow, at 5PM. Bay
Creek Resort Marina (Cape Charles) will reserve slips for CCC participants
only - be sure to let them know you are racing. Race on Saturday from
Little Creek across the Bay to Cape Charles. Spend Saturday
night at the gorgeous resort marina, Bay Creek, at Cape Charles - post-race
party (dinner and awards) on the Bay Creek decks. Sunday, race from
Cape Charles to the finish line off Buckroe - another post-race party and
awards at Bay Point on Little Creek (Norfolk). There are starts for all
PHRF Fleets (CBYRA sanctioned races with distance bonus points) as well
as a Cruising Fleet. The PHRF Non-Spin Fleet is broken into double
headsail and single headsail - there is something for everyone! For info
and/or to register, contact Scott Almond at (757) 471-2663.
"There's no substitute for experience,"
and 8 boats full of "experienced" racers
proved the point in the annual Tom Brady Masters
Race hosted by Hampton Yacht Club on Saturday. A
wind in the mid-teens made for a brisk early afternoon jaunt around Hampton
Roads Harbor under the watchful eye of Tom Brady's son, Malcolm, and
daughter-in-law, Kathy Brady. Special rules require that
everyone on the boat be at least 55 years young and that the boat itself be at
least 10 years old. RESULTS: 1.Phil Briggs,
Feather, J36; 2.Bumps Eberwine, Spray, Olson
25; 3.Graham Field, Independence, Islander
36.
Another Bionic Racer: In case you
haven't heard, Karl Petersen, Valkyrie, Dehler 39,
recently took a tumble down the companionway (boat was at the dock) and broke
his leg in a major way. He'll be OK, but he is laid up while the bolts,
plates, and screws become a part of his being! Keep those cards and
letters going Karl's way. However, there is a silver lining [for the
racers] - he and Senta, because of the busted leg, will be
here [not off on the Caribbean 1500] to honcho the CCV Annual
Awards Presentation Party (again)!
As of this past Friday, there are 68 boats
registered and ready to race (and party) at the Cape Charles Cup Regatta.
Entry cutoff is Wednesday, Aug 15, 5PM. Call Scott Almond at (757)
471-2663.
There are now 3 Pearson
Flyers knockin' heads within the southern Bay PHRF B fleet:
Bob Archer's Bad Habit, Larry
Preddy's PF Flyer, and the newest to the fleet, Bobby
Whitehouse' Fat Bottom Girl. And, speaking of like boats
racing like boats, 5 Santana 20's will see one another on the
race course at the Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta, (October 5-7), hosted at Yankee
Point Marina.
New addition to the southern Bay Racer
ranks: Hank Ross, all 9 pounds and 3
ounces of him, has arrived. Mom and Dad, Pam and Jim
Ross, are doing well too. Jim has long been a regular on
Lou and Barbara Lewis' Incentive (PHRF C).
New Yorkers Put the Bite on Shark
Championships: Bryan and Christina Perrin, took
first and John and Linda Rogers took second in the Sharks
Nationals. Both couples are from Canandaigua, New York. They
traveled south to sail in the regatta hosted last week by Broad Bay Sailing
Association at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach. Southern Bay
racers, Jerry Pattenaude and crew Christina
Couch (Chesapeake, VA) took 3rd. Race chairman,
Lloyd Griffin, finished up the Shark assignment and raced
his "big boat" Cash Flow, Sunday in the CCV Founders Race.
MURPHY'S LAW:
SHARKS!! I'll take on a feisty squirrel anyday, but The Murphster
don't want no part of no shark no time!
/S/ Murphy the Racing
Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
