Dale Moser, a mainstay around southern Bay racing and
especially on the Rappahannock River scene, passed last Tuesday, after
battling an illness. He is gone way too
soon. Those who knew Dale will miss him terribly; those
who had not known him, have missed a truly gentle man. "And in the night
of death, hope sees a star, and listening love hears the rustle of a
wing."
Southern Bay racers made good use of the last day of summer
yesterday as the PHRF A and PHRF B fleets sailed a 14+ nm course and the PHRF C
and PHRF Non-Spins did 11nm in CCV Fall Series Race
#3. Cash Flow, Lloyd Griffin's
Hadley 40, banked on great crew work and navigation around the various
marks, finishing first in the water and overall in PHRF A. Rusty
Burshell, Cool Change, finished first in the water and was not
corrected upon in PHRF B, as did Alan Bomar, roundabout,
in PHRF C, and Andy Armstrong, Virginia H,
in the PHRF Non-Spin fleet. RESULTS: PHRF A (8 boats
racing): 1.Lloyd Griffin, Cash Flow;
2.Bob Mosby, Cyrano; 3.Dave Eberwine,
Sea Star. PHRF B (9 boats racing): 1.Rusty
Burshell, Cool Change; 2.Neal Garrett,
Strega; 3.Bob Archer, Bad
Habit. PHRF C (13 boats racing): 1.Alan
Bomar, roundabout; 2.AJ Piccillo, Fat,
Drunk & Stupid; 3.Jonathan Phillips,

CCV FALL SERIES takes a weekend off,
with the next races, Fall Series 4 & 5, on October 5.
Two sanctioned races in Hampton Roads harbor. First
warning at 1030 / 10:30AM. OPEN TO ALL. Deadline for
entries is 1300 / 1:00PM on Saturday, October 4. You may enter all, one, or some
of the races in this Series - entries are due at 1300 the day before the day of

NEPTUNE'S ATLANTIC RACE, Saturday, September
27 - sponsored by Broad Bay Sailing Association in
conjunction with Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, entries are due by TOMORROW,
Tuesday, September 23rd. Mandatory Skippers Meeting, Friday, September
26th, 1830 / 6:30PM, at The Raven Restaurant on Atlantic Avenue at
the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Course: from just North of
Little Creek, around Cape Henry, finishing in front of the OLD COAST GUARD
STATION at the Virginia Beach oceanfront (vicinity of 24th
Street). OPEN TO ALL PHRF fleets as well as a
non-sanctioned Cruising Fleet. PHRF Non-Spinnaker and Cruising are single
headsail only. First flag scheduled at 0925 / 9:25AM.
For PHRF racers this is a CBYRA sanctioned regatta (#426), and it counts for all
in the Chesapeake Bay Distance Racing Series. For information and to

wasn't worth a damn and we / I quit; the crew didn't know
anything and wouldn't listen, " said
Glenn Giles, in discussing this weekend's up- coming
Singlehand Race, sponsored by Hampton Yacht Club, Sunday, September
28. No spinnakers, life jackets worn throughout, no
autopilots, no headsail changes, and no whisker or spinnaker poles.
Racing in Hampton Roads Harbor. Skippers meeting at noon at HYC on

Three southern Bay J/24s from Fleet
71 are heading to the Interclub Challenge Team
Race, hosted by Annapolis YC, this coming Saturday, September
27. Roundabout (Alan Bomar), QUICKY (Mike
Veraldi), and NOCO LOCO (Jonathan Harn) will be carrying the

John and Beverly Blais' beautiful new
Beneteau 36.7, Stardancer, made her local debut yesterday in the
CCV Fall Series, finishing 6th in PHRF A in the single distance
race.
Those attending the Neptune Atlantic
Regatta skippers meeting at The Raven, oceanfront at Virginia Beach
(see regatta info above in this issue), will have a chance to bid on a
beautiful, framed painting by Leland Simmons, who races
his boat Cygnet, a Sabre 34, locally. The 24 X 18 piece has
been donated to BBSA for auction. Bring your cash and/or plastic -
certainly would make a nice holiday gift for someone.

UPDATE: Alan Bomar reports
on southern Bay youth sailing - In shifty & puffy
conditions at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, Christ
Church led by Coaches Jill Petrone and David
Livingston won the 8 teams (16 boats) high school regatta this
past weekend. Norfolk Collegiate and Maury rounded out the “in the money”
finishers, taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Racing continues next week on
the “Rivah” at Christ Church.
