As any golfer will tell you, it never rains on the golf
course, and according to those who raced on Saturday in the NEPTUNE
ATLANTIC RACE, neither does it rain on the race course! This was
a pursuit race which began just north of the entrance to Norfolk's Little
Creek and finished 15 miles later, off the Virginia Beach oceanfront at
the Old Coast Guard Station (24th and Atlantic). Sailing the day after a
nor'easter blew through the area, racers experienced light air at the
start, but things filled in to a moderate 10-12 knots before all was said and
done and only one of the 21 starters did not finish.
RESULTS: PHRF A (2 boats) - Christian
Schaumloffel, Mirage, took first in his fleet as well as
"first to finish" overall. PHRF B (4 boats) -
1.Ben Cuker, Callinectes; 2.Mike
Nestor, Glory Days. PHRF C (3 boats) -
1.Cary Hardesty, Lona B; 2.Martin
Casey, Bow Movement. PHRF Non-Spin (4 boats) -

Wilde, Kingfisher. Cruising (8 boats) -
1.Jim Forrester, Anjalei; 2.Leland
Simmons, Cygnet; 3.Tom Pantalides,
Mazi. PRO - Scott Almond. Broad Bay
Sailing Association runs the Neptune Atlantic in coordination with the
annual Virginia Beach Neptune Festival.

accordingly. RESULTS: Division 1 (7 boats):

5o5 East Coast Championships:
Twenty-two (22) teams got together for this showdown at West River Sailing Club

(Hampton) with crew Jesse Falsone (Annapolis)
finished 2nd overall and Henry Amthor (Hampton) and
crew Dustin Romey (San Juan) took 4th.
Barney Harris (Arlington) and crew Clayton James (Gloucester) finished
10th. Also, there from Raleigh, NC, finishing 18th were
Dave Burchfield and Jay Smith.

MURPHY'S LAW:
BAILOUT! Why all the fuss?? Yrs Truly, the
Murphster, was involved in a complicated
bailout once. A bunch of us "bailed out " a stationary beer truck at a
post-race party. And, our buddies later "bailed us out" of the
local hoosegow. /S/
Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
