the MURPHY RULES clinic, set for January 24, 2009, at Norfolk Yacht and
Country Club (see information below). US SAILING members should look
for their copies of the new rule book to arrive in the mail in a few

FROSTBITE SERIES 2008 - begins this coming Sunday,
November 2, and runs every Sunday in
November. Racing in Hampton Roads Harbor and around
fixed marks. A PHRF certificate is required (except for Cruising
class), but the crew limitations do not apply. This is a great way to
keep the rust from setting in and a good crew builder for the coming
season. The first warning signal is at a "very civilized" noon,
1200. For info and to enter contact Brian Deibler at (757) 224-4272 or
(757) 715-8977. Hampton Yacht Club sponsors this Series,
which is OPEN TO ALL.

MURPHY RULES - 2009: Understand the rules, including
all the changes for 2009 - 2012. January 24, 2009, Saturday, 0900 -
1545, at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. All you never
thought you could know about the rules! The focus of the clinic will
be an interactive discussion of the racing rules with special emphasis on the
rules changes that become effective this January.
Course instructor John McCarthy will explain all the important changes and work

understanding concepts rather than memorizing rules. The fee, if
received prior to January 1, is $40 ( $35 for attendee's family
member); after January 1st, it will be $45 per person. Your registration
fee includes morning refreshments, lunch, and break beverages.
PRE-register by calling (757) 850-4225 or by email to mcbear@earthlink.net (include your name,

MURPHY'S LAW:
The Halloween goblins will be out this coming Friday, October 31st. It is
traditional in the HYC Frostbite Series to sail the Halloween weekend
race "in costume". So, drag out your special pumpkin
orange foulies and fuzzies that Aunt Tillie gave you and put 'em to good
use. All the racing ghouls and gargoyles will be
there. /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the
sailing spirit in us all.
