#494 SOUTHERN BAY RACING NEWS YOU CAN USE
Monday May 24, 2010 01:59PM
onSOUTHERN BAY RACE WEEK (June 4-6,
2010): More than 70 boats have
already entered SBRW 2010. TODAY, May 24, is the final
day before the $50 late entry fee kicks in
tomorrow. With 10 fleets, two racing
circles (side-by-side off Ocean View), three days of great racing, and four
party-hearty parties, there is a lot for everyone. If the competitive
skipper insists all the crew wear light Kevlar underwear, there's a PHRF fleet
that will fit. If you are laid back and like to light the
barbie on the last leg, the Cruising fleet may be your cup of tea.

Starting guns and wedding bells - SBRW 2010 will have
it all! On Saturday of SBRW, after the racing,
Jenn McCullough and Richard Winters, both established racers on
the southern Bay scene, will be married aboard Cyrano, Bob and Mary
Mosby's Frers 36. The plan is for Cyrano to return to her slip
after racing on Saturday, so the actual ceremony can take place on
board, and from there, Jenn and Richard will be feted by friends and
family at HYC. All of this will happen in the midst of a throng of SBRW
racers, friends, and festivities!!!! Sailing IS a lifetime
sport!
FEATHER wins the HAMPTON ROADS HOSPICE REGATTA.
It could not have been a better day for sailing in Hampton Roads
harbor, and the Hospice racers did just that Saturday. The proceeds from
the regatta go to area hospice organizations. A number of participants
give beyond their entry fee to the cause. This year Hospice recognized
Dave Alexander as having raised/donated the largest
amount. RESULTS: PHRF A (4 boats) - 1.Phil Briggs,
Feather (J36); 2.John Blais, Stardancer
(Beneteau 367); 3.Christian Schaumloffel, Mirage

cast. He broke his leg while sailing. It has not slowed Cary down;
he will be among those racing on Bob Howell's CYMRU this coming weekend
for the Down the Bay Race.
The HR Sunfish Challenge & Dinghy Distance
Race (Saturday, September 25) has two new sponsors:
Marine Sonic Technologies of Gloucester Va. and St. Moritz

already, and 14 are Sunfish!!
After the dust settles from SOUTHERN BAY RACE WEEK
(June 4-6), coming up on the southern Bay racers list is the
HARBORFEST HOMETOWNE REGATTA (Saturday, June 12).
Harborfest Hometowne is hosted by Portsmouth Boat Club and is sailed on
the same weekend on the Elizabeth River as Norfolk's mega-summer festival,
Harborfest. This year Harborfest is tangentially involved in
recognizing the participants of the regatta. "Harborfest will call
the award winners of the regatta up on the big Harborfest stage on Saturday
night and their names will be on the Nauticus big screen for all to see,"
explained principal race officer Larry Bryant. The
awards presentation and cook-out dinner will be at the PBC clubhouse on Elm
Street in Portsmouth (5pm-7pm), leaving plenty of time afterwards for a
ride over to Harborfest (by ferry, car, or cardboard raft) and the special
recognition there. Make no mistake, PBC is the organizer of this race and
continues to do all the heavy lifting. It is nice to see the regatta
mentioned on the Harborfest schedule, but it remains in the HOMETOWNE REGATTA
format that PBC has had in place since Harborfest dropped the
old Michelob Challenge event years ago. Entries are due no later than 5pm,
Monday, June 7. For entry forms, regatta info, click on
www.portsmouthboatclub.org
or contact Larry Bryant at (757) 472-5969 Go race, enjoy PBC
hospitality, and do the festival - a full day!
MURPHY'S LAW:
Deliveries are not so bad. Yrs Truly, the Racing Beagle,
will be delivering with a special friend
(ooh-la-la), who is bringing rabbit stew and squirrel soufflé
(yummy-yummy). We think we'll get the
boat there in time to race Down the
Bay. /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the
sailing spirit in us all.
