12th ANNUAL SOUTHERN
CHESAPEAKE LEUKEMIA CUP REGATTA - JULY 10-11, 2010. Hosted by
Stingray Harbour Yacht Club and Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Two days of
racing, classes for PHRF A, B, C, and Non-Spin, a Classic division, and a
Cruising Class. There will be one-design racing for classes with at
least 5 boats. For information contact Laura Boone at (804)

x-6711. And, remember, for Hampton Roads and York River area
racers, Fishing Bay is 6-7 hours closer to Solomons Island for Screwpile
the following week (July 18, 19, and 20). A perfect hop

Commonwealth of Virginia Junior Sailing
Championships. Forty-four (44) junior sailors raced in
the Virginia Juniors Championship Regatta this past weekend. Hampton Yacht
Club was the host this year. In the largest fleet - OPTI Blue,
Red and White (19 boats), Alexander Hanna finished first
overall; Will Whittmore was second, and Erin Jacob was
third. In the Laser Radial Fleet (10 boats), Alex Jacob
finished first, Ben Buhl second, and Austin
Powers third. Winner of the 4 boat Club 420 fleet was
James Codega. The first three finishers in the
Opti Green Fleet (11 boats) finished one point apart -
Stephen Streater (10); Peyton
Goldthwaite (11), and Reeves Yanez
(12). Race Chairman and Opti RWB course =
Malcolm Brady. Race Officer for Laser Radial/ and 420 =Brian
Deibler. Race Officer for the Opti Green Fleet = Randy Pugh.

already entered in the 2010 Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge Regatta
(July 18, 19, 20) in Solomons, MD. Hook up now with the Southern Bay

SCREWPILE LIGHTHOUSE
CHALLENGE 2010 - July 18, 19, and 20th -
Solomons, MD. This is the
regatta chosen by racers as the Best on the Bay in 2009 - expect
even better in 2010! Go to www.splc.us , print down your entry
form, fill it in and mail it with your fee to Screwpile Challenge 2010.
Regatta headquarters is at the Holiday Inn Solomons (regatta headquarters)

taking your info that you are coming to SCREWPILE and give them

VETERANS CUP - SATURDAY - JULY 10,
2010. Here comes Langley Yacht Club's annual Veterans Cup.
Starts are offered for all PHRF Classes (PHRF Non-Spin is double headsail) as
well as for a single headsail Cruising Class. The plan is to do two
drop mark races on Saturday. The Skippers Meeting is Friday, 7pm at
the Water's Edge Grill (upstairs over the Salt Ponds Marina Office,
Buckroe Beach Road, Hampton). The Notice of Race is posted at the LYC

J/30 RACERS - There will be
a one-design fleet for you at Screwpile! So far, all of the entries
are from the "upper" Bay. There are some very capable J/30 skippers and
crew on the southern Bay. Get yourselves together and get entered in
SCREWPILE 2010. Braggin' rights are on the table! www.splc.us.

Henry Amthor and Dustin Romey
finish 6th at 505 North Americans in Chicago. Team
Amthor/Romey sailing out of Hampton Yacht Club, were in the top 10 at a
talent laden 505 North Americans last week. The 505 NA Championship was
won by former Rolex Sailor of The Year, Augie Diaz(Miami), sailing w/ Parry
Barkley from Annapolis. The group included the current World Champion helm
Mike Martin, an ODU grad, who came in 3rd overall. In the very
near future (July 24 - August 5) southern Bay sailor Tyler
Moore and Annapolis racer Geoff Ewenson will team up
at the 505 Worlds in Denmark. Also going to the
Worlds are Chris Rasmussen and son,
Thomas. Cross your fingers and toes for all of
them. NOTE: The 505 East Coast Championships will be hosted by Hampton
Yacht Club this coming September 24 thru 26.
WTF wins Melges 24
National Championship - Steve Hunt, whose roots
stretch all the way back to Hampton Roads (and College of Charleston), is a
member of the championship crew along with Jeff Reynolds, Eric Shampain, and
Sarah Currin. Alan Fields is the skipper/owner.
DINGHY SAILING RETURNS TO BROAD BAY IN VIRGINIA BEACH. Join in the fun on Tuesday, July 13th, 6PM, and help get Virginia Beach and Broad Bay back on the dinghy sailing/racing map!!! Southern Bay Sailor Steve Black's
Cruising Rally Association (CRA) joins with World Cruising Club
(WCC). CRA, best known as the organizer of the annual
Caribbean 1500 Rally from Hampton VA to the British Virgin
Islands, and WCC, organizers of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), from Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia, are joining forces to become the largest
global organization dedicated to the sport of passage-making.
Cruising Rally Association has
organized ocean sailing rallies and seminars for 21 years under the leadership
of President and Founder Steve Black. “We are excited to
be joining with the World Cruising Club whose size and international reputation
will help insure the long term continuation and success of the events we have
worked for years to establish.” Steve Black is a veteran trans-oceanic single
handed passage-maker. He plans to continue his work with WCC and to cruise
and race aboard his Simonis/ Voogd
designed Pacer 42 sloop. Future CRA rallies will continue to be organized and
run from the combined organization’s US office, providing continuity and support

Race. Set for Saturday, September 25, 2010, excitement about
this is bubbling. The inaugural event in 2009 gave indications of the
possibilities of this event. Now, in 2010 Portsmouth Boat Club has stood
