PHRF SAYS YOU MUST HAVE A PHRF
RATING FOR THE PHRF FLEET IN WHICH YOU PLAN TO
RACE. That is to say, if you are racing PHRF
Non-Spin, you must have a PHRF Non-Spin rating (a PHRF Spinnaker
rating will not do!) If you are racing in a PHRF Spin fleet, you must have
a PHRF Spin rating (a PHRF Non-Spin rating will not do!) PHRF is very
clear about this. If you do not have the rating you need, call PHRF at
(410) 414-3270. Don't be left at the dock - get this straight now, time is
a' wasting!
THIS SATURDAY Race your
Scot right! The Flying Scot Clinic is set for
Saturday, April 9th (0900 'til mid-afternoon) at Fishing Bay Yacht
Club. The clinic will be conducted by Jerry
Latell of Ullman Sails Virginia & Latell Sailmakers and
David Neff from the Selby Bay Sailing Center. David
is the FS Capitol District Governor. Open to all, there is no charge
for the clinic itself. You may sign up for pizza and a drink for
lunch for $6, or you can pack and bring your lunch from home. For info
contact John Berry at (804) 769-2856. On-line sign up is
available at www.fbyc.net
CCV Tune-Up Races: Like Van Cliburn's
piano, they are TUNED! Fifteen (15) southern Bay racers took
advantage of the beautiful sunny and moderately breezy conditions yesterday to
do the CCV Tune-Up Races in Hampton Roads. At the gathering were Sea Star, Treaty of Ghent, Pterodactyl,
Incentive+, Gremlin, Bad Habit, Wham Bam, Independence, Stingray, Callinectes,
Roundabout, Insolvent, Figaro, Surprise, CYMRU. The race committee, headed by Tom Connors, who
usually is sailing Fins Up (Pearson 26), got in two races. So,
plenty of rust was shaken off and plenty of crew are feeling ready to
go!
CCV SPRING SERIES OPENS SUNDAY, APRIL
10th. Let's get ready to rummmmmmble! There
will be two races in Hampton Roads harbor - starting line in the vicinity of CCV

offered for all PHRF fleets (PHRF Non-Spin allows double headsails) and a
Cruising Fleet (single headsail only). This is Day 1 of the Series - it is
a 2 race day. Daily awards will be based on combined scores of the
two races. Races #1 and #2 will be counted as individual scores for
overall Series standing. CCV Racing Members are automatically
entered. All others must submit entry and appropriate fee no later than

BATTLEWAGON, aka GREY
EAGLE, the gray Pearson that tore up many a race course with
John Hanna at the helm, has another new owner.
Doug Savage now owns Grey Eagle. He, along with
Bob Fleck, skipper of Horizon, delivered her to
Alexandria on the chilly, chilly weekend before this past. Doug
previously owned and raced quite successfully his S2 10.3, Reprisal,
until she took a tumble from her jackstands and never returned to
action. It is reported that Doug is once again a happy man!
Several skippers will do the Down the Bay Race (May
27-28) as well as Southern Bay Race Week (June 3-5), but so far only one
will do the events in different boats. Bob Howell, will
sail his Beneteau 44, Cymru, in the DTB and then switch to his
"new-to-him" Pearson 30, Top Gun for SBRW.
