ST. PATRICK'S DAY is this coming SATURDAY, MARCH 17TH. Do it all - wear green, march in a St Paddy's parade, eat green mashed potatoes, and above all, drink green beer!
CBYRA president Karin Masci made the trip down to Hampton to present 2011 CBYRA High Point awards to southern Bay racers yesterday. A complete listing of High Point standings are available at www.cbyra.org .
Twenty-five (25) folks interested in the nitty-gritty of race committee work and how to do it right, spent their Saturday at the US Sailing Race Management Seminar hosted by Rappahannock River Yacht Club in Irvington, Virginia. RRYC volunteers numbered in the double-digits, too, as they provided outstanding hospitality, refreshments, lunch, and their facility for the visitors.
Bluewater racers who are planning to do the 2012 Newport Bermuda Race (start is June 15) are reminded that the NBR Safety at Sea Seminar is this coming weekend (March 17-18) at the Newport Hyatt Regency Hotel. Deadline for application for entry is April 15, but best advice is to enter now so that preparation of the boat can begin. As of last week, 143 applications had been filed and 125 entries had been approved. Go to www.BermudaRace.com for race info and most recent postings, including an amendment to a storm sail regulation.
Remember, it is on every skipper and crew to PRACTICE MAN OVERBOARD PROCEDURES. Do your drills as a part of your spring practices and do them often! Make it as important as hoisting the main.

MURPHY'S LAW: Yrs truly, the Racing Beagle, is keenly aware of the approaching plethora of SOCK BURNING events. In the coming weeks, at special gatherings all over the southern Bay and beyond, racers will burn their socks to appease the racing gods. Remember, the level of appreciation reflected in racing success is directly proportional to the value (to the racer) of the offering. The Murphster cautions bringing out Aunt Nancy's knitted paisleys to offer up. Rather, an offering of your favorite cotton red crews or the regatta designed deck footies are more likely to bring smiles from the racing gods! Sock it to 'em! /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
