Closing Day Oyster Roast - Wrap up
Saturday November 2, 2024 09:04AM
onThe weather was perfect for the FBYC Closing Day Oyster Roast, held against the beautiful backdrop of Fishing Bay. Once the racers returned to shore, over 200 members, sailors, and guests gathered in the Clubhouse to celebrate with food, drinks, and friends.
Throughout the afternoon, fresh oysters—raw, steamed, and grilled—were served at tables outside the clubhouse. Inside, tables overflowed with a variety of appetizers, stews, gumbos, chilis, desserts, burgers, and hot dogs. Thanks to the Cruising Division, we also enjoyed a full Taco Bar, ensuring there was something for everyone. Many attendees went back for seconds, and votes were cast for the best share dishes.
The share dish competition has become a highlight of the event, showcasing an impressive array of culinary creations. Tables filled with delicious options competed for "Best in Class" and "Runner-Up" in three categories: Appetizers and Savories, Crockpot and Chilis, and Desserts. This years winners were;
Appetizers/Savories:
Winner- Antipasto Skewers, Susan Wright
Runner-Up- Hot BLT Dip, Janet Moyers
Crockpot/Chili:
Winner- Shrimp Gumbo, Robin Rutsky
Runner-Up- Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Marie Lay
Dessert:
Winner -Flan, Ruxi Cole
Runner-Up Pound Cake, Izumi Miller
As always, big thanks to Brian and Ben for setting up the grounds, picking up food and drinks, coming in to cook and take care of numerous other issues.
Lastly, a big thank you to all the many others who lent a hand throughout the day. That sense of teamwork is what makes FBYC special!
