onSeven FBYC Juniors raced their way to multiple awards at West River Sailing Club's Junior Regatta and Maryland State Championship on Tuesday. Winds were light and fluky on the West River near Galesville, MD but Alex Jacob still managed to pull out a 1st overall among 66 boats after three racesin the Optimist fleet. Madeleine Alderman continued her winnning performance with a 3rd in class (Red) and 5th overall finish in the Optimist fleet while also becoming the first recipient of West River Sailing Club's Joan Watts Memorial Trophy, which honors top performing women youth sailors. Austin Powers took a 5th out of the 30 boat Optimist Blue Fleet and a 15th overall. One of our star performers was Graeme Alderman who continues to ratchet his way up the fleet with a 2nd place finish in the 12 boat Optimist White Fleet. Ben Buhl made his mark with a 13th in the Optimist Blue Fleet. Cori Radtke posted a solid mid-fleet position in the 13 boat Laser Radial class. Its worth noting that many of the competitors in this regatta, including Alex Jacob are top notch sailors from the Northern Bay returning home from sailing abroad with several of the US National Teams. All of this has been made possible by lots of hard work by these juniors and their parents led by our top shelf coaches Alejandro Cloos and Diego Ravecca who have made it their mission to send our kids to the top of the fleet. We should all be proud of their accomplishment.
