Quantum Key West Race Week 2015
As most of you have heard by now, our own junior rock star Gannon Troutman dominated at Key West Race Week, January 18-23, skippering and steering his family’s J70 Pied Piper to 5th out of 54! Gannon was recognized as the youngest skipper-and most successful junior-in the 28 year history of the event. The J70 is the hottest, fastest growing keel boat fleet in the country, attracting the best sailors in the world. The fleet was filled with professional sailors and sailmakers, as well as top sailors Tim Healy, Eric Doyle, Tony Rey and even Dave Ullman! Gannon’s crew consisted of his Dad and FBYC Opti coaches Victor Diaz de Leon (tactician) and Tommy Dietrich (trimmer). Victor coached our Fall Opti Race Team in 2013 and Tommy coached our Summer Opti Race Team in 2014, and will return in 2015 as our head coach. This finish qualifies Gannon for the 2015 Worlds! Be sure and catch the article about Gannon in the March Log.
We are so proud of Gannon, Benton and Boyd; all members of our Opti Race Team. Florida has been good to us this winter! According to Benton’s Dad, Doug, FBYC is all the buzz in Florida!
Go FBYC!
