onFBYC sent three boats to the Atlantic Coast Championships (ACCs) held in Edenton, NC this past weekend (Sept 22-23). Len Guenther (with John Wake crewing, Jay Buhl with Mike Karn crewing, and Mark Wensell with Skip Hope crewing. All three did us proud by finishing in the top 10 out of 22 boats. Len and John took 3rd place, Jay and Mike took 4th, and Mark and Skip finished 8th.
It is great to have an on-the-scene reporter, so without further ado, I turn this over to John Wake:
22 boats with a couple of notable MIA's....Rob W., Neff.
Harry C. Beats Aras on the tiebreaker, Lenny was a close 3rd until his bonehead crew stopped looking around in the last race (he had been warned about this). Buhl/Karn were 4th. Ed Summerfield was 5th and won the Carolina District Champs.
Saturday was blowing 8-12 SSW with square waves and bigger shifts than I ever remember at Edenton.
Sunday was breeze on 15-18NNE, moderating to 8-12 as the day went on. The wind was very unstable, big puffs and even bigger shifts - plenty of passing lanes.
The last race was a thrilla...many lead changes with top half of the fleet getting to play.
The race was ultimately won by a guy and his 14 year old son from NC.
The Carolina Sailing Club and Event Chair Alan Backus did a great job of hosting the event with the cooperation
of the town of Edenton...and no club infra-structure.
