FBYC Spring Series 4 on Sunday June 6

The FBYC Laser fleet
once again saw great racing in some fluky winds on Fishing Bay.
The first
race was one to play the shifts on and Alain played best; Jon, Brad and Dave
weren't far behind.
The north-west wind
lightened for the 2nd race and all of the boats had trouble 'beating' to the
first 'weather' mark. The fleet eventually rounded and Brad found a slight
breeze way out in the middle of the channel while the rest of the lasers drifted
about in the middle of the course. Despite protest to the committee to
wave off the race, the boats continued on their slow journey to the bottom
mark. Sure enough the sea breeze made a brief appearance and all of the
boats continued their slow pursuit of the leeward mark. By this time Brad
had already rounded and beat not only the Laser fleet to the finish line, but
the Flying Scots as well. Jon and Dave followed.
Jon and Brad were
the only two left to duke it out in the 3rd race. Brad let by barely a
boat length around the first two marks on the H course. On the last beat
to the finished line, Jon made some gains and got ahead as both boats went
upwind side-by-side in roughly 12 knots of wind. While Jon was ahead
pinching, Brad's better angle to the finish line gave him a little more speed
and in the last 20 yards gained enough to win by less than a 3 foot
margin.
Next Saturday is the
5th and final day of racing in the spring series. Skipper's meeting at 10,
races start at 11. Drinks, snacks, awards and dinner after racing.
