FBYC Welcomes Laser Masters Sailors
Thursday October 15, 2009 08:50PM
onFor everyone who will be joining us for the Chesapeake Bay Laser Master's Championship this weekend I would like to welcome you to Fishing Bay Yacht Club. We have a great regatta planned and a great group of competitors coming so it should be a lot of fun.
A few notes for those who are new to FBYC or reminders for those who have been here before:
DOCUMENTS
Here is the NOR: http://www.laserdistrict11.org/events/e334
And the SI's have now been posted to the club website: http://www.fbyc.net/Events/2009/10.17.onedesign/SailingInstructions.doc?
ENTRY LIST
We are expecting about 30 boats.
DIRECTIONS
PARKING AND LAUNCHING
Please note that the grass ramp has been closed for the year to undergo some repairs. All launching will have to be done via the concrete ramp. This shouldn't be a problem for 30+ lasers as we have done 100 boat laser regattas using just concrete ramp. At the bottom of the concrete ramp is a beach area for launching and dolly storage.
REGISTRATION
BREAKFAST
DINNER
Note there is an offshore event on Saturday. Those sailors will mostly utilize the Jackson Creek facilities and will have their social in the Jackson Creek club house.

Directions to FBYC can be found at: http://www.fbyc.net/Club/Directions
Anyone arriving on Friday is more than welcome to go for a sail. Please park boats either in the 'Laser Coral' directly in front of the main club-house, or in the field directly adjacent to the pool. Please park cars around the outside of the Laser Coral or along the fence on the west side of the club property.
Registration will be open from 8am to 10am Saturday morning. If you have pre-registered, please come by to check in and pick up your t-shirt and dinner ticket. Anyone not registered, can do so at this time.
We will have breakfast available both Saturday and Sunday morning at the club starting around 8am. It will consist of muffins, bagels, coffee and juice.
Dinner will be served at approximately 6pm Saturday evening. The exact time, not sooner than 6, will be determined once everyone is off the water and we can be sure everyone has had adequate time to de-rig and clean up. Dinner will be something along the lines of steak and potato with a sea food soup. Wine, Beer and soft drinks will be available and are included in the dinner.
We will have water, Gatorade, power bars, min-sandwich wrapes, and fruit available on the water on Saturday and as supplies allow on Sunday. They will be available from the Sea Craft. This is the boat without the roof that will be stationed near the start-finish line between races.
Take a look at the SI's to see the sailing area. If the wind is out of the East or South, we prefer to sail in area B or C which is more in the mouth of the Piankatank River in the Chesapeake Bay. It is a 30-45 minute sail depending on wind conditions. If the wind is out of the North or West, we will sail in area A or B in the middle of the river between or in Fishing Bay and Godfrey bay. Sail time is 20-30 minutes depending on wind conditions.
The weather for this weekend will be in the 50's with a chance of rain both days. The wind forecast for Saturday currently shows 12mph out of the north for most of the day.
